CPU STRESS testing: Mersenne.org Prime95 and Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool (IPDT)

Prime95 Hardware Stress Testing Steps:
  1. Download Prime95 (The latest version is 30.19 build 20, June 2, 2024, at the time of editing)
  2. Navigate to where you saved the Prime95 files and unzip the files.
  3. Open Prime95 from the list, and then click Run in the dialog box if it opens.
  4. Click Just Stress Testing
    Read More:
  5. Run Small FFTs, In-place large FFTs, and Blend for a few hours each.
Report back if CPU temperatures reach dangerous levels, if the system crashes, or if hardware errors are discovered by the diagnostics.
    Read More:
Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.

Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool

This tool should be executed if you (1) have an Intel CPU and (2) are experiencing 0x101 bugcheck BSODs (CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT - i.e., a CPU hang).

Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool
The purpose of the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool is to verify the functionality of an Intel® Microprocessor. The diagnostic checks for brand identification, verifies the processor operating frequency, tests specific processor features and performs a stress test on the processor.

The diagnostic can be configured to execute in one of two modes, presence test mode or verification mode. Additionally, it can be configured to enable (run) or disable (skip) individual default configurations that are used for this mode of operation.

Re: Prime95 Hardware Stress Testing + Intel CPU Test

Found the following at prime95 test question - [Solved] - Overclocking - Tom's Hardware

Do NOT run any versions of Prime95 later than 26.6. Here's why:

Core i 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation CPU's have AVX (Advanced Vector Extension) instruction sets. Recent versions of Prime95, such as 28.5, run AVX code on the Floating Point Unit (FPU) math coprocessor, which produces extremely high temperatures. The FPU test in the stability testing utility AIDA64 shows the same results.

Prime95 v26.6 produces temperatures on 3rd and 4th Generation processors more consistent with 2nd Generation, which also have AVX instructions, but do not suffer from thermal extremes due to having a soldered Integrated Heat Spreader and a 35% larger Die.

Please download Prime95 version 26.6 - Windows Downloads Center: Prime95 26.6

Run only Small FFT’s for 10 minutes.

Use only Real Temp to measure your Core temperatures, as it was designed specifically for Intel processors: Real Temp - Download Real Temp | techPowerUp

Your Core temperatures will test 10 to 20C lower with v26.6 than with v28.5.
