    The best registry cleaner ever!

Interesting decision on someone's part, and not one I ever would have made! I hope it gets moved back to The Lounge, which is a more appropriate location by far.

    The best registry cleaner ever!

@Maxstar The link you gave takes you straight to the download page, and there's nothing there that clearly indicates the joke status of this software. I worked my way "back up" and found the page with the full description of Placebo where that's made clear. The name, however, was enough to...

    The best registry cleaner ever!

Corinne, You are 100% correct, and I am in absolute agreement with you and that policy, but note well the name of this `cleaner`: Placebo. I do believe that this is a joke (now confirmed as an April Fools Day joke, even though the software is real). Even if it's software, we know that...

    Security tightening up

It's not college level material. The resources have been offered. They were written for end users. Do with them as you wish. And, no, I'm not going to give you step-by-step instructions for anything because you are grossly overthinking literally everything. If you have been using your...

    SFC SCANNOW Error

Well, my standard advice when DISM and SFC cannot fix what's wrong: Performing a Windows 10 or 11 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows ISO file

    Security tightening up

I can see no point in repeating much of anything from the advice I'm about to direct you to except one thing: Security is about layers. And the weakest link in computer security is the thing (you, any you) that's sitting behind the keyboard. Windows Security is a top tier product that is...

    SFC SCANNOW Error

Try running this command first: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Even if it comes back clean (and it may not, there will likely be errors fixed), then try SFC /SCANNOW again afterward and report back on what happens.

    update hardware drivers

That answers your query, and in the opposite of your assertion. If a device appears when something is plugged in and disappears when it is pulled . . .

What's the verdict? Windows 11 Discussion Thread

Nor do I. One of the first things I do when setting up any Windows system is to go through Privacy settings throwing a huge number of toggles to "off." Regardless of what they say about the "advertising ID" one resulting not in fewer ads but in non-customized ones, I see far, far fewer (if...

    update hardware drivers

Actually, there isn't necessarily a solution. That yellow exclamation point indicates there is a device driver problem for the device. I don't know what anyone can give you other than links to the suggested fixes, and if they don't work, they don't. The search results I referred to include...

    Cloning hdd to ssd

Yep (and whether Macrium or another imaging utility). These days I'm often finding more success with imaging and then restoring the image to a new drive than I do with cloning. Something has changed in the age of the SSD, and I'm not quite sure what.

    update hardware drivers

PCI Simple Communications Controller at DuckDuckGo This appears to occur on quite a bit of hardware, and the solution is generally based upon the make/model of the computer (among other things, but it's a good starting point).

    update hardware drivers

Uh, what issue? If you have something that was going on elsewhere, whether another site or another topic on this site, a direct link to the pertinent location to establish context is required. We're not mind readers.

What's the verdict? Windows 11 Discussion Thread

I've always "Turned off or disabled One Drive," without any problem. I never take anything away, though, where I have any bit of free cloud storage. Should I wish to use it OneDrive still fires up with ease, but once I exit, I'm out unless I were to fire it up again. I also haven't had those...

Doing a Completely Clean (Re)Install of Windows 11 [also applies to Windows 10, too]

NOTE: The downloadable instruction sets are updated based upon ongoing feedback, and will be "fresher versions" than the original text that follows these over time. The text instructions below can be downloaded for ease of printing from: Doing a Completely Clean (Re)install of Windows 10 or 11...
