I repair laptops for friends, because their local repair shop has a standard diagnosis: "Your motherboard is fried". So far, I have revived 5 laptops from non-boot state, and saved the data on 4 (I got paid in tortillas).
The last one (my mother-in-law's) really did have a fried MB, so I bought her an Asus F556UA-AS54.
