[SOLVED] Windows Server 2016 - unable to install Windows Updates, DISM fails at 94%

Hey Team,

We're having an issue with a Windows Server 2016 virtual machine not installing Windows updates.

We've tried multiple different attempts to resolve this and a lot research keeps bringing me back to your forums!

I was able to identify KB5005573 might be corrupt but this is no longer available to download directly from Microsoft

Hoping to get some specialized assistance with this issue.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Follow these instructions to remove an update.

Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.

Code:

wusa /uninstall /KB:5005573

Let me know if it says it was successful or you get the message: The update KB5005573 is not installed on this computer.

Thanks for getting back to me! Unfortunately the uninstall failed with error code 0x800f0900. Let me know if there's another way to remove this update or resolve this error?

Hi,

Step 1. Download

SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.

Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.

Thanks for that! I have run the SFCFix and the output file is attached. I have started some Windows updates and at the time of posting they appear to be installing successfully!
