Hello geniuses!

We have a Windows Server 2022 install that can't update KB5042881 (21H2 - CU 2024-09). It starts to install, gets to 100%, but then fails with status "Download error - 0x800f081f"
We have tried to run SFC, DISM, rebooting, changing the locale from spanish to english, manually downloading the update... but success seems to be avoiding us.
The server has installed Veeam Software, its a fresh install from the last month.
Its a VM with 8-core, 16 GB of RAM, running over vmware v7
The server is a ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus, and the CPU are Intel(R) Xeon(R) Silver 4310 CPU @ 2.10GHz

Previously it fails to install the 2024-08 update, same error. Also we couldn't solve that.

Hope you cant guide us to the solution.

Greetings from Argentina!

There is an extra "t".
It should say "Hope you CAN guide us to the solution".

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update again. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Thanks.
The failure persists... i've rebooted and retried all the commands (sft, dism, etc), so there is the CBS.log again.
