[SOLVED] Can't install any Windows Updates anymore (Win 11)

Hi,

I have been having issues installing Windows Updates for some time now. Now today, I wanted to install Windows 11 version 24H2 and it failed again with error 0x8007001f.
In CBS log I have following error, don't know if this could be the culprit - not an expert in this matter:

2024-10-02 10:14:22, Info CBS Missing Current State value for package: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-LA57-FoD-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.22621.1, force absent so at least it can be re-installed
2024-10-02 10:14:22, Info CBS Failed to get visibility for package: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-LA57-FoD-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.22621.1 [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Please follow the Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions and provide the requested files in your next post.

Step 2. Export CBS (Component Based Servicing) hive
  • Click on the Start button and type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).

  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update again. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.

Thanks, I'll need to rebuild a VM with the French language pack and some specific updates to provide the next fix, so this may take some time..

I ran the fix, rebooted PC and tried installing update, but failed again. Attached the sfcfix logfile and new CBS logs.

What error messages did you see after attempting to update?

Please run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
