[SOLVED] Windows Server 2019 fails to install updates 0x800f0900

Hello,

One of our Windows Server 2019 Datacentre VM's is failing to install Windows Updates. We currently use a patch manager and that has flagged that multiple Cumulative updates fail to install.

The server seems to get stuck in a update loop and has a forever pending update. Whenever you attempt to install the server gets to Stage 1 of 3 and reboots back to the OS. Numerous attempt at self fixing resulting in no luck. We have revererted the server back to a previous checkpoint so any changes I've made are no longer. Sfc /scannow and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth fail to complete with varying windows error codes.

I have attached the logs as stated in the posting guide.

Update: it seems the server is installing all other updates apart from cumulative ones.
 
Hi,

Please run the following DISM command with another Server 2019 as source. Replace ServerName with the name of that machine. If it fails again attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:\\ServerName\C$\Windows\WinSxS\ /LimitAccess

DISM did fail again at 90.4% with error code 0x800f081f. I've rebooted after running SFCFix and DISM to make sure the VM still boots.
