Hi Everyone,

I need help with a Windows Update issue - error code 0x800700c1. My PC is running version 20H2 and OS build 19042.1110.

I have looked on the internet and tried multiple things but nothing seems to work. This forum seems like the only place where this issue has been fixed. Hoping someone can help me so that I don't have to perform a fresh install and reset my PC.

I have attatched everything as required by the Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions below.

Thanks

SFC Scan:

This doesn't run.

Code:
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

DISM:

This also doesn't run and gives the following output. I've attatched the log below.

Code:
C:\Windows\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.19041.844

Image Version: 10.0.19042.1110

Hi thanks for your reply.
I've done both the steps listed above.

Step 1:
Done. Resulting log file attatched.

Ok thanks.

I did both steps like before.

Step 1:
When the zip file was dragged into SFCFix.exe, the computer rebooted and was on the getting windows ready screen for just about over an hour. I've attached the log file below.

Step 2:
The DISM command still didn't work and gave the following output. I've attached the log files for that as well.
Code:
C:\Windows\system32>DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.19041.844

Image Version: 10.0.19042.1110

Hi Maxstar,

I just restarted my PC and it started updating. It took a while but when it booted up, I checked and sure enough, my PC was running version 22H2 and was on OS build 19045.5247, which I'm pretty sure is the latest release. I can't thank you enough as before I found this forum and got your help, I had tried various different methods, none of which seemed to work. I will definitely be sending a donation as you've solved a massive headache for me.

Thank you so much!

Hi,

Glad to hear the update installed without any issues, but please run the following DISM command again to be sure there are no remaining corruptions.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Hi,

I did the command and it gave the following output.
Code:
C:\WINDOWS\system32>DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.19041.3636

Image Version: 10.0.19045.5247

[==========================100.0%==========================] The restore operation completed successfully.
The operation completed successfully.

Once again, thank you so much for all your help and please let me know if there is anything else I need to check as well.

Hi,

You're welcome. This looks good, so we can mark this thread as solved... (y)

Edit: and thank you very much for your donation to Sysnative.
