For some time now, I have been managing a machine running Windows Server 2016 Standard.
Previously, I had the Hyper-V role enabled on it, but I decided to remove it in August.
Now, I need to deploy it again, but the process ends with error 0x80073701 and a log entry indicating missing installation sources and issues related to update KB5043051.
It's possible that communication with Windows Update was blocked on the firewall for some time, and this update was not installed.
I kindly ask for assistance. I am attaching the CBS directory and files generated according to the guide.
Please help me resolve the issue.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Follow these instructions to remove an update.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
Code:
wusa /uninstall /KB:5043051
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or you get the message: The update KB5043051 is not installed on this computer.

Download the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link
  • Open the startmenu and type the command cmd.
  • After you find the Command Prompt, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following into the Command Prompt and press enter.
Code:
reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\COMPONENTS
Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following (code) into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
Code:
KB5043051
  • When the scan is complete, a message will display that SearchReg.txt is saved in the same folder FRST was started from.
  • Post the logfile SearchReg.txt as attachment in your next reply.

You'll need to press the Search registry button when you copied the KB number (KB5043051) into the search field, not the Scan button.

Start the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool again.

  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Great, please try to install the Hyper-V role again and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Great, the lastest CBS is clean so if there are no remaining issues we can mark this thread as solved!

Yes, thank you very much for your help.
However, can you explain to me what was going on and why the lack of this KB5043051 caused such a significant problem.
I guess I missed its installation and the installation of the next security bulletin blocked the possibility of its installation.
However, is this a normal situation?

You're welcome. This is a common issue when an update is partially installed or removed from the system! Such is issues also prevents newer LCUs from being installed.
