I believe it is being caused by KB4048957 because this is the last security rollup to successfully install. Having said that, I am unable to uninstall it. When attempting an uninstall, I receive the following... "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled."

sfc /scannow
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:4041681

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

It says that 4041681 is not installed on this computer. :banghead:

Re: [WIN7 SP1 x64] KB4074598 failing to install - Error 80073701

That was actually expected!

Search with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)

  • Download FRST64 and save it to the Desktop.
  • Open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  • Type or copy/paste the following command:
Code:
   dism /online /Get-FeatureInfo /FeatureName:TFTP|find "completed"
  • Wait for the command to finish with "The operation completed successfully" Please ignore and continue with the steps.
  • Close the window "Administrator: Command Prompt"
  • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon
    FRST.jpg
and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
(When the tool opens for the first time, you must click Yes on the disclaimer.)
    FRST_SearchRegistry.png
  • On the Search box (1) type or copy and paste the following text:
    KB4041681
  • Press the Search Registry button.
  • Wait for the search to finish FRST will produce a log called (SearchReg.txt) in the same directory the Tool is run from.
  • Please attach the log to your post.

Re: [WIN7 SP1 x64] KB4074598 failing to install - Error 80073701

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Afterwards, try updating and attach CBS.log if it fails.

Re: [WIN7 SP1 x64] KB4074598 failing to install - Error 80073701

Brilliant! Finally can install security updates again! How did you identify KB4041681 as the culprit? And how is the fixlist.txt prepared?

Thank you so much!

Re: [WIN7 SP1 x64] KB4074598 failing to install - Error 80073701

Thanks for letting me know. I analyzed the CBS.log and found the offending update. FRST is a very powerful tool that has to be learned along with its syntax.
