[SOLVED] [7SP1 x64] Monthly Quality Rollup failures - KB4041681, KB4054518, and KB4056894

Congratulations! You've hit the bull's eye with your most recent effort!

2018-02 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4074598) Installation date: ‎3/‎4/‎2018 9:50 PM Installation status: Successful
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.263.48.0) Installation date: ‎3/‎4/‎2018 9:46 PM Installation status: Successful

I'll go back into Windows Update in the morning and see if there are any other updates in the queue, and if so I'll verify they also install successfully.

Well done!

I ran Windows Update 3 more times this morning, installing all the queued updates for my tired old computer - how excellent is this!!

Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and sticking with the problem tenaciously for nearly two months. I've never had an experience with any Support staff for any problem that approaches the level of help you've provided - it was huge!

I have a question or two regarding clean up.
  • Can the test admin account be removed now, and can I delete the various archived zip files I saved while you diagnosed the problem (CBS, Logfile, etc)?
  • Are there any post-repair issues that need to be tended to? By that I mean were any of the steps taken to diagnose or repair the problem temporary in nature, and now need to be restored?
  • Lastly, are you able to tell if there was anything I did to cause the problem? I have almost no idea what you did to fix the issue, but I'd like to ensure I don't recreate the problem down the road.
Thanks again!

Hi, that's great news! Thanks for your kind words!

Yes, everything can be removed.
I don't think there is anything in particular. You can reinstall Malwarebytes if you wish.
To be perfectly honest, this was a shot in the dark, I didn't know what else to try. The issue had me baffled.
I don't think you have caused this. There was likely a corruption within this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network
I deleted a certain value and after that it worked. Also, at one point we deleted a certain registry key, which I have also restored in my last step.

Let me know if there are any further questions.

No further questions; I'll just leave you with one last Thanks! my androgynous friend!

With St Patrick's day approaching, I thought I'd share this Irish toast:
Code:
May you have the hindsight to know where you've been
the foresight to know where you're going
and the insight to know when you're going too far.

Be well!
