Battery dead?

... an edit to existing threads does not cause the thread to bubble up to the top of the list ...
That may not be completely true for all all fora/BB software/plugins. I've seen instances on 1, possibly 2 sites where topics I expected to be 'marked as read' were left unmarked on a subsequent visit, the last post in each of the topics had been edited during/after my last visit to them.

I fear we are leagues away from the battery problem now, did it get solved?

Unfortunately not - I may buy a new battery eventually, but most likely I'll leave it and carry on running off mains power. The laptop is four years old anyway now, it has a few more years left but I don't want to spend too much on it.

I guess that since the mass uptake of Smartphones and other portable WiFi-enabled devices, having a battery powered computer is less of a necessity than just a few years ago; I haven't replaced my dead notebook or netbook batteries for similar reasons.

If you wanted to score a high % hit rate against the spammers, the Edit time would need to be in the 3-5 minute range (as would Staff checks) - the search spiders are so efficient these days.

I think all that depends on what type road warrior you are, and your computing requirements (personal and business) you have on the road (or in the air). Presentations are still a high priority for many so external monitor/projector connections are a must, and not found on many - if any smartphones or tablets. Some netbooks might - I don't know. But I know many travelers who have long battery run times as the top priority.

One of the reasons I'm not too bothered about the dead battery is my constant use of my smartphone. Not perfect, but much better battery life than my netbook and I can view/use the majority of websites just as easily. I personally wish more websites would have mobile users in mind with their normal web display (not mobile versions, they're generally not so great on higher end smartphones).
