• Still running Windows 7 or earlier? Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14th 2020. Please review the thread here for more details.

Can't get into Windows 7 login with any graphics driver after crash. Only safe mode or no graphics driver can I use windows now 😖

The Windows drive appears to be PNY CS900 120GB SSD.
Please confirm.

If possible, please remove or detach the cable for the drive that failed Sea Tools long generic testing.

For any BSOD or unexpected shutdown and restart:
a) run the Sysnative log collector to collect new log files

b) open file explorer> this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
> if the file size is < 1.5 GB then > save to the downloads folder > zip > post a separate share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

OCZ-ARC100 also failed Sea Tools long generic testing.
Please backup any important files and replace this drive.

ok i got fed up with doing all these things over again, trying to do windows updates, etc.
I managed to find a box of old parts in storage that had an old HD 5770 in it, so i put that in and it works dandy, not as good of course.
So i guess it is the card...despite it working perfectly fine on anything besides stuff that requires directx...

😩

this is the 2nd freaking hd 7850 I've had that decides to crap out on me, completely random. the first one just went dead, at least this one still good for..windows..booooo

Did you also try to reseat the HD 7850 g.c.?
yes, putting it in second slot made no difference as well.
i also tried brushing dust off of the top of it to maybe stop surface voltages forming that might be making the 3d specific circuits going wack
i put it back in and using it now, trying to get drivers installed, not going so well. (getting lock ups before installations finish which wasn't really a problem before, but maybe due to all the windows chicanery lately)

This is why I suggested testing the card first. Testing the hardware that is suspect first will save countless hours and headaches. (In most cases)

That being said, some people simply don't have "extra" parts around to test with. I've always suggested maybe obtaining one from a friend or family.

Yeah i'm surprised that the hd 5770 works, it was in a basement flood and even has some rust from it, also had to repair the cooling fan since it was seized up.
I just didn't think the 7850 i was on was bad as it was displaying everything fine without artifacts or error information.
It just couldn't work with it's proprietary driver suddenly which I just find to be weird and pointing towards windows, since usually cards either work all the way or nothing/obviously deteriorated output.

So anyway, is there any service that can revive bricked cards without charging too much?
ALso curious what options, if any are there of cards anymore to buy for this version of pcie slot, better than this 5770 that would be worth the price?

You can mess around with the BIOS of the card but you need to know what you are doing. Of course, if it's already "bricked" then how much harm can be done huh? Lot's of good info on this here.

We'll need to know what PSU you have before recommending a video card upgrade.
