[SOLVED] Can't upgrade to ie10

The shutdown button always has the yellow shield. I always fails. Researched the errors and found my to componet services. Ran the System Readiness tool and found errors. Fixed i myself kb2876331 but there are other errors as you can see from the attached zip.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Yay, that's worked this time! :D

Next one! I need to get some files from a Windows 7 32 bit install for the 3rd fix - and I have a 64 bit machine. I will have to create a new VM for this. That may take a while, so please bear with me :) But for now, perform the below fix. :)

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)


  1. Download the System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft --> here <-- Please save the tool to a convenient location as it may be necessary to run it again.
  2. After the download has completed, double-click the file and wait while it initializes.
  3. Click Yes to begin installation. Please note it may take some time to complete and may appear to stall whilst installing. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal behaviour. Also note, whilst I say "installing", it's actually running the tool and can therefore be "installed" (run) repeatedly.

  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this new file to your next post.

Unfortunately, for the rest of them, I need to get a Windows 7 x86 machine. I can build a Virtual Machine to do this without much effort, but I just don't have time until after Christmas.

Successfully built the Windows 7 x86 Virtual Machine however.....

The VM is running Windows 7 SP1, and I need some files from Windows 7 RTM (SP0).

A RTM/SP0 ISO is currently downloading, but could take a while (e.g. >5 hrs! I have a really.... slow internet connection!!)

Hey Stephen,

Dang the luck. I'll just have to wait. No problem. The computers hard drive started failing and I think caused all the corruption. I found the problem because the antivirus was unable to install. Appears I'm stuck on the ie10, ie11 wanting to install. Appears to get to a point where the install marks the system dirty and requires a reboot to clear this flag and thereby letting the antivirus install.

You indicated you had the vm of win 7 32 generated and also needed a few files from the download your trying to get to help me with but do you think fixing what you do have would be enough to get the iexx to install and reset the flag so I can get some av? If I could get the av going I don't care how long it takes. The system is running great ohterwise.

And of course Thank you very much for hanging in here with me.
