[SOLVED] Can't upgrade to Windows 10 from Win 7 Ultimate (error code 8007005)

This doesn't make any sense. Something is definitely wrong as you can't even run the Setup but it appears it's only this Setup. you can run others just fine. I only have the following four options left for you.

1. Uninstall the following programs and then try again.
Advanced SystemCare 8
IObit Uninstaller
Surfing Protection
TuneUp Utilities 2014

2. Obtain a Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 DVD and run a repair install.

3. Post an inquiry in our Windows 10 forum to see if they can assist you with getting the setup to run.

4. Use VMWare Workstation and do a physical to virtual conversion on your machine. I think in the file menu of VMWare Workstation there is an option to do this. You would need to ensure you have enough free space. Then we can load this in a VM and do more drastic fixes to figure out what the issue is.

Thanks Brian for TU remover tool link.

1. I have successfully removed all the programs you suggested. Tried running the Setup.exe file both in Safe Mode and normal, but still no success. Same result for Media Creation Tool.

2. Couldn't obtain a Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 64bit DVD.

3. Checked Windows 10 Help forum and saw few threads moved to Windows Upgrade forum, therefore didn't post a new thread there.

4. I converted my physical machine to virtual machine but, when I tried to power on the machine in VMware Workstation, it gave me the following messege.

Do you have any solution to the 32 bit vs 64 bit issue in VMware Workstation?

Please disregard my question about VMware workstation 32 bit and 64 bit issue. I have enabled Virtualization Technology in the BIOS and now I can power on the machine in VMware Workstation.

Since I converted my physical machine to Virtual before uninstalling those 4 programs you recommended, I will have to delete this virtual machine and convert again. I will let you know when I am ready with my physical machine converted to Virtual machine.

I have converted my physical machine to Virtual machine without those programs. I have powered on this virtual machine now.

Good. That's expected. It would be extremely hard if the behavior was different. What I would do now is to go to add/remove programs within the VM and start uninstalling programs one at a time. If it asks you to reboot after an uninstall please do. Uninstall only one at a time and then try to run the setup after each. You only need to reboot if prompted. I would start with the Acronis Backup entries.

OK all 6 entries of Acronis Backup uninstalled successfully with only one reboot.

OK so far I have uninstalled nearly 25 programs out of nearly 130 I have in Add Remove program, still no success.

I will continue later, as I have to go out now.

I know this isn't fun but we're eliminating potential causes. I really want to find out what this is. Two questions for you.

1. Can you confirm that you have a legal copy of Windows?
2. Do you happen to know the size of the VMDK file that resulted when you did your physical to virtual conversion?

1. Yes.

Windows update KB971033 installed on April 1 2013. Not a single (Windows) update has failed so far.

2. It was just over 90 GB.

I have uninstalled nearly 90 third party programs in the Virtual machine.

Neither Media Creation Tools opens nor Setup file from the USB media.

Please do the following within your VM.

Step#1 - Run Windows Repairs
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
1. Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable to your desktop.
2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on the file on your desktop and choose Extract All...
3. Keep the defaults and click the Extract button.
4. A folder named tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio will be extracted to the desktop. Once the extraction is complete the folder will open.
5. Inside this folder, there is a folder named Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. Open this folder as well.
6. Double-click on Repair_Windows.exe to open. Note: Please make sure all of your programs are closed and anything you were working on is saved as we will be rebooting.
7. When the program opens, click the Reboot to Safe Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Answer Yes to allow.
8. Once rebooted into Safe Mode, open the program again. When the program opens, click the Repairs tab and click the Open Repairs button.
9. A backup of your registry will be made. After a few moments you will have many options from which you can choose.
10. Keep all the defaults.
11. Ensure the Restart check box is selected and click the Start Repairs button in the lower right of the screen. This may take some time to run so be patient.
12. Once the fixes are complete you will be prompted to restart your machine. Answer Yes. Let me know if the Windows 10 setup program starts after this..

Carried out the Windows Repair all-in-one in VM.

Tried Setup file, but still no success.

Would you be opposed to sending me your .vmdk file and then I can figure out the issue and then hopefully just provide you with a solution? I can provide an FTP location or Dropbox location to send it.
