[SOLVED] directX and Nvidia drivers causing high DPC? FIX: DISABLED ONBOARD GRAPHICS CARD

I am largely a PC newbie, but will try to include as much detail as I can: I recently put together my first water cooled PC, and have been experiencing audio drop-outs, pops, and occasionally lag and drops in FPS during gaming. For the most part, the audio problem arises when streaming online, particularly when opening a new window or other program or when the video is loading. Im running an ethernet cable and generally get 200-250Mbps (most recent speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/result/7079366170.png), so I dont think its the connection. Recently, audio has begun to drop out while gaming too, and I have to go to the realtek audio manager and disable then enable the device to get it to turn back on. Im using a Samsung 4k TV through an HDMI cable as my monitor, the problem is not in the speakers themselves, they're fine when using the tv directly (via netflix, amazon, or other in-TV programs).

high DPC latency seems to be common so here are some of the things I have tried (and have been unsuccessful with) while checking with latencymon:

changed XMP profiles
disabled all audio drivers and ran one at a time
revert to an old NVIDIA driver with clean install (388)
reinstall current NVIDIA driver w/o any other drivers (audio, 3d, phsyx, etc)
update BIOS (both to latest, then to slightly older version to avoid buggy chipset fix)
ran MEMTEST (no issues found)
tried running audio directly from mobo instead of GPU
turned off mobo audio in bios
updated all drivers w/ iobit driver booster
disabled avast/malwarebytes
disabled network adapter drivers

I have not tried:
messing with C states in bios
enabling driver verifier
starting w/o gpu or trying different pcie slots


I would not be surprised if Im just doing something stupid or have something activated/deactivated that shouldnt be... this build has been a learning process, but Im floored that anyone would need to jump through this many hoops and spend all this $ on a product that doesnt work 100% :frown6:

latencymon: directx and nvidia drivers seem to be the most frequent, but the audio driver (HDAudBus.sys) also pops up occasionally

There weren't any dump files produced. The errors in the event viewer all point to Malwarebytes. Please make sure you are running the latest version. You can use the Check For Updates in the program itself. If that doesn't help you can uninstall it then redownload it and reinstall it.

OK, so the SDK trace was too big to attach (10mb), but here's a drive link:

let me know if that doesnt work. It looks like chrome comes up the most in the trace, but the latency issue pops up even w/ firefox and when playing steam games. maybe a complete chrome uninstall is necessary?


also, uninstalled malwarebytes, no fix. I also booted in IGFX instead of the GPU and the latency was still there, AND it went BSOD once as well...that hadnt happened with the GPU as of yet

the drive file was a zipped file, so maybe thats why? the dropbox link should work

Windows Performance Kit from Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit needs to be installed to open the trace file properly.

Please revert the driver installs done by Driver Booster and uninstall all programs from IObit, the software of IObit is known for causing issues (especially Advanced SystemCare and Driver Booster) and/or can be replaced with better alternatives.

Windows Performance Kit from Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit needs to be installed to open the trace file properly.

will do, tho the latency issue showed up before any IObit program installation

He was telling me how to open the file Chef. You don't need to download it. At least I don't think so.

Chef already has the kit installed to provide us the trace file.

@chef, it doesn't matter if the problem started before IObit was installed, there are enough situations where IObit rendered systems unable to boot mainly after using Advanced SystemCare.

ok, do I need to worry about any potential files that arent deleted by the uninstall?

also, any chance this latency stuff is caused by a PCIe riser cable? it still showed up when I booted on IGFX but im curious

Not that I'm aware of. Of course, if there are any problems use either a system restore point or different system backup (if any).

read on another forum that IRQ (conflicts) might be the cause, so checked out my device manager (attached). Any idea why this USB 3.1 controller would be taking up so many slots? also, correct me if im wrong but it seems to be competing with everything else using a PCI? or is IRQ not a concern?

I don't see IRQ data in my device manager, what does msinfo32 say in Hardware Resources > IRQs?

will check when i get home, but to see IRQ in device manager, click the 'view' tab, then sort 'resources by type' and it should be an available tab. My PCI stuff was at the bottom of that list
