Error 80073712: Havent been able to install most updates for almost 2 years

Thanks for letting us know.
Let's try the update again. You know the routine.

Greetings.

Thank you for the information.

I would like to step back a bit and discuss our options. This is by no means a request to end our efforts, we are more than willing to continue to try to overcome your issues while there is still some hope of doing so. Our concern is your potential level of frustration and fatigue with the ongoing Windows Update failures. Though we hope for a breakthrough sooner rather than later, it is impossible to guage how close we might be to finding success, if we find success at all. It is possible the only way to bring your system back to health would be to perform a Repair Installation of your operating system. This process should not remove any data files and you may have to repair/reinstall some programs but this is usually not the case.

Let us know your thoughts.

Hello,

I'm back :)

Thank you for your concern. I understand completely where the concern is, so I'll point my view on this as well.

As I have mentioned before (maybe privately), I am not frustrated at all. Sure, I would like to see this being fixed sooner rather than later, but I completely understand that its not really easy to figure out the root cause behind the issues I'm getting.

I mentioned in this topic title, that I have not been able to install any updates for years. Meaning, this is not a new issue. I lived with it for years with no expectations of it being fixed without a clean reinstall. That is, until I came across this forum, and saw what you guys do here. Which is why I took the plunge. I have no expectation that this will eventually lead to a fix. But I have nothing to lose for trying. If it eventually gets fixed, then great. If not, then I lost nothing.

I also understand that we all have our real lives, and there are time differences between us. Therefore, there might be delays in replies from either side. The fixes only take a minute or 2 each time, so it's not distracting me from anything I'm doing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I also take comfort in the fact that, as I understand, all those fixes performed are stuff that needed to be done anyway, regardless of whether they were relevant to the issue at hand or not.

So basically, I'm in this for however long it takes. That being said, I understand that the longer this issue takes, the more time I'm taking away from you to analyze the logs and provide fixes. If anything, it's taking time away from helping other users.

With that in mind, I'm not sure about the repair installation process. I'm not sure what kind of services will be removed after this is done. I have several services that I manually installed over the years, as well as drivers for several components, I'm not sure what all of these were. An example of this would be powershell. I dont know why, but it didnt work on my PC, and I can't remember what I did to get it installed and all working for me. I'm not going to lie, laziness is also a part of it. I would have to look for my windows installation disc, and go through a (maybe) tedious process, with time that I don't really have much of. So I would like to stay away from this until it becomes our only option.

Given all of the above, please do let me know how you would like to proceed. I'm open to all scenarios possibly, and we can take it from there. I can suggest teamviewer, if that would help speed things up, but that's up to you guys to decide.

Thanks again for all time and effort you have put in this. I understand it's not easy, and at the very least, time consuming. I really appreciate it.

Greetings and welcome back.

We are happy to continue on until such time as it becomes readily apparent we will not be able to overcome the corruptions. Hopefully we will find success but time will tell.

Let's do this now.

sorry for the delay. The update uninstalled successfully, but failed to install

Did it say it wasn't applicable to your computer or did it try to install and failed?

Thank you.

I would like you to try to install that update again even though it will most likely fail. If it does fail again please provide the CBS file.

Greetings.

Excellent.

Can you check which Windows Updates are available to install. We don't want to install them yet, just evaluate which ones are there.

Hi,

3 important updates:
KB4487078
KB4486563
KB2952664

34 optional updates:
KB4486565
KB4487256

All other optional updates are language packs

Greetings.

Thank you for the information.

We are going to try to install all of the Important Updates but do so one at a time. Only continue on if an update is successful. If one fails, please provide the CBS log file. Attempt to install them individually in the following order:

KB2952664
KB4487078
KB4486563

  • Results?

Hi,

First one failed. I expected as much since they try to auto install themselves every night I think, and fail. Though I don't think it was individual installation.

Anyway, CBS attached

Thanks

Hi,

uninstall went fine. For the install, moved the .cab to C: instead of desktop cause it's easier, and used the following command:
dism /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows6.1-KB2952664-v25-x64.cab

I received the error below. CBS is also attached, and I also attached dism.log if you need it:
