[SOLVED] Error code 800F0831 Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi I'm Gary R,

I'm a Security Analyst, and a Windows Update Trainee, and I'd like to help you with your problems.

As a trainee there may be times when my instructions must first be checked by a qualified update expert, before I post them. This will by necessity introduce some delay when/if that occurs, so please be patient.

Can you please do the following for me ...

  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
    • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing

  • Once selected, click File > Export....
    • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (.)
    • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Thanks.

Going to take me a while to go through things, I'll get back to you ASAP.

  • Click on the Search button and type Cmd
  • From the search results choose Command Prompt then Run as Administrator
  • When prompted by UAC allow the prompt.
  • When the Command Prompt Window opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press Enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:5022899
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

When I try wusa /uninstall /KB:5022899 it says:
'The update KB5022899 is not installed on this computer'

Yes, that's what I expected it would say. That's because it's not properly installed. So now we've got to remove the entries for that update that are present on your machine.

So ....

  • Click Search and type CMD
  • Right click the CMD App from the search results and select Run as Administrator
  • With the App open ...
    • Copy/Paste the following Command into it ...
    • reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\COMPONENTS
      • This loads your COMPONENT hive.
    • You can now close the Command window.
  • Next ...
  • Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop
    • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST
  • Right-click on FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator
    • Copy and paste ... KB5022899 ... into the Search box.
    • Click the Search Registry button.
    • When the scan is complete ...
      • A log will open on your Desktop ... SearchReg.txt
    • Attach the file ... SearchReg.txt ... to your next reply.
  • You may close any remaining open windows now.

  • Download the file Fixlist.txt attached to this post to the same location as FRST64.exe. (must be in this location)
  • Double click Frst64.exe to launch it.
  • FRSTwill start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press the Fix button.
    • FRST will process the fixlist and when finished it will produce a log named Fixlog.txt
    • Please post it in your next reply.

Next ... Reboot your computer.

Next ... try to update.

If successful, please let me know.

If unsuccessful, please post me your latest CBS.log
