Yeah, that's a Homer Simpson moment for sure.
My Lenovo finger print lock failed for the same reason. Who would have thought that using muratic acid to clean my garage floor to prep it for the epoxy coat would have destroyed my finger prints? After learning this, corporately, we disabled the feature on all systems to prevent further issues. Nothing beats a really good password.
