[SOLVED] Installing DirectPlay error 0x80070490. FIX: USED DISM ENABLE-FEATURE

Hi,

I am not sure this is the right forum to ask this, but since I have tried everything else I'm giving it a go. For an older game (Rollercoaster Tycoon) I have to install DirectPlay, but I get an error when trying to do so.

Windows couldn't find required files to complete the requested changes. Make sure you're connected to the internet and try again. Error code: 0x80070490.

I get this error when trying to launch the game via Steam, and when I try to install DirectPlay via control panel>programs>programs and features>turn windows features on or off>legacy components>DirectPlay, as stated on various websites as a fix for this problem. For example: Turn on direct play to use older games... windows 8, 8.1.1 and 10 | Windows Forum
I have (as suggested elsewhere) to disable my anti virus software, but I get the same error every time. I am connected to the internet.
I have tried to run a sfc/scannow, and used SFCfix. It did say that it fixed the problems it found, but not the problems I have encountered ;)
I run windows 8.1

Any would be much appreciated!

Add Missing Package
 1. Click the Start button and type cmd.exe in the search box.
2. Right-click on the cmd that comes up and select Run as administrator.
3. Once you are at the command prompt, copy/paste the following line and hit enter.
pnputil -a C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_prnms003.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17415_none_e7bbd801ef400762\prnms003.inf

Let me know if it says successfully installed. If it does, try installing DirectPlay.

btw, does your Windows Update work?

It didn't work :( It comes back with an error saying "the third party INF does not contain digital signature information"

As for my windows update... I thought it was working fine, because my windows still automatically updates every once in a while. But now that I manually started the Windows Update app and pressed install for some update... It is just stuck on 'preparing to install...'. No I guess the answer is no.

EDIT: nevermind! Apparently it was just super slow. The update was installed successfully.

Ah I edited at the same time you posted. As you can read, everything worked out. It was just slow :)

Came back with an error.

"The operation is complete but DirectPlay feature was not enabled. A required parent feature may not be enabled. You can use the /enable-feature /all option to automatically enable each parent feature from the following list. If the parent feature(s) are already enabled, refer to the log file for further diagnostics."

I've dropped the log here: dism.log - Google Drive
 
Hello i have the same problem i followed your solution but the Installing DirectPlay error 0x80070490 problem didnt solved if you can help please let me know thanks
