Seems we're at it again, many people try and get ivermectin to 'cure' covid or 'prevent' themselves from getting covid-19.

Why You Should Not Use Ivermectin to Treat or Prevent COVID-19

This medicine is often used to treat horses and cows for parasites, but can also be used for humans for scabies, head lice, river blindness, and more, and from what I see on the wikipedia page also for heartworm and acariasis in veterinary medicine.

The wikipedia page includes a paragraph on ivermectin to cure covid-19. According to it, it could inhibit replication of sars-cov-2 in monkey kidney cell culture with an IC50 of 2.2–2.8 μM. Not sure what the last part "with an IC50 of 2.2–2.8 μM" exactly means aside from it being some measure for a certain dose I assume (even after trying to do research I don't understand), but "Based on this information, however, doses much higher than the maximum approved or safely achievable for use in humans would be required for an antiviral effect.", i.e. it will guaranteed get anyone in the hospital with an overdose before it is effective.
