[SOLVED] KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED ntoskrnl.exe+4f5cae repeatedly.

Thanks for letting us know, it's a shame we weren't able to find the exact cause of the issue but at least the system is more stable than it was. It is a very old laptop so there may be some form of bug which was never patched by the OEM. Linux builds are usually pretty good at running on older hardware so hopefully you shouldn't have any problems. I usually prefer running other operating systems in a VM because at least you can "scrap" them very easily in case something goes terribly wrong!

Were the bugchecks the same Stop 0x1Es again?

Yes just the same 0x1e at 0 to 10 minute intervals. I agree it would have been nice to find the cause, but there's only so much time & effort it's worth throwing at such an old device, & if it's a BIOS issue/bug as you suspect, I really don't fancy the chances of it being fixable.

At best it only has a few years of being able to run Windows anyway, since it doesn't meet the spec. for 11, I might as well start getting used to Linux being its OS now as later.

It'll be near impossible to fix if it were a ACPI BIOS bug as I suspect since the laptop is no longer receiving patches. The best option, as you've said, is to use it as a Linux machine since most older hardware has no problems with running those distros.

Hi, I also have a gd8200 and experiencing same problems with win 10. can you post the link to the bios v110? I have looked everywhere and all links are dead as was previously mentioned

Don't think I can find the link again, not easily anyway, some site on a .pl domain, however, I didn't delete the file.

I did, however, give up trying to get Win 10 running as the native OS. It's really quite happy running Debian 11, small amount of hunting I even got the Linux driver & setup tool for the touch screen.

But FWIW the 110 bios image/setup file is attached. I wouldn't try running the flash program under Win 10 though.. BSOD halfway through a BIOS flash? Um no thanks!
Downgrade to 7 before running, or see if it'll run in safe mode, your choice.. but make sure you flash from a STABLE install.

His response:

We're familiar with this issue, spent a fair amount of time this past year working on a fix, and just solved it a few months ago by compiling a modified bios image with the necessary patch. It resolves the instability (Kmode Exception BSOD) and the 100% CPU usage symptoms observed in Windows 10 following version 20H1, including the most recent 21H2 feature update.

So far we've only been issuing the bios update to existing customers, I haven't really considered selling the patch separately, and it does represent a work product of considerable time investment. EBay no longer allows the sale of non-physical (downloadable) products, but maybe we can bundle it with something from our store

----I've spent enough time on this, will probably purchase this solution

Maybe he knows something.. then again.. the first picture is clearly running Windows 7, & the documentation says 8GB is the max supported RAM..

Well given that response.. one wonders why he doesn't offer it on a physical burned cd or a low capacity memory stick...

I'm just wondering, since it's an old laptop and the issues seem to be power state change related, whether the laptop needs a dust clean? Muck and dust quickly builds up in the heat exchangers right next to the fans, and that's where all the cooling is done. Perhaps this is a heat spike issue?

It's nothing that easily fixed, or I'd never have arrived here, thing's been to bits to replace a broken USB I/O sub board & cleaned in the process, an absolute royal PITA with a water resistant ruggedized laptop, just BTW.

It's a BIOS thing, you can run stress tests for over 24 hours with literally everything, CPU/GPU/RAM & Disk I/O pegged at 100% under Windows 7 or Linux, solid as a rock, upgrade Windows past 7 & endless bugchecks KMODE_EXEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Seems to be the way to go to get 10 on. Or run it in a VM under Linux as I'm now doing, it's perfectly happy & stable run that way also.
