Interested in learning how to fix Windows Update issues and want to help other users? Join the Sysnative Windows Update Academy!

For over a decade, Sysnative Forums have been providing thousands of users with highly detailed, customised support for Windows Update, SFC and DISM related issues. Over this time we have performed a large amount of research and developed custom tools to assist with repairing these issues. We pride ourselves on being able to fix almost any Windows Update issue without needing to resort to a clean install. Our research has even made the news: Samsung disables Windows Update, leaving laptops open to hackers.

Our team is made up entirely of volunteers, everyone here contributes their free time to help others.

To compliment our research and investigation work, we have created the Windows Update Academy - a semi-formal training programme designed to teach others about the internals of Windows Update and how to repair almost any issue.

We are now looking for new students who would be interested in working through this programme and becoming a trusted volunteer here at Sysnative. If you genuinely enjoy solving challenging technical problems and helping others, then we would love to hear from you!

What we offer

  • Structured Tutorials - The academy contains a number of tutorials to build the foundations of knowledge for repairing Windows Update issues
  • Practice Logs - After each major section of tutorials we pose a practice log - a series of questions or exercises which you are to work through yourself to test your understanding of what you have learnt, and gain practical experience. These will be marked by an experienced Windows Update analyst.
  • Reference Library - A collection of many years worth of accumulated knowledge, summarising the fixes and tricks needed to resolve many of the Windows Update problems, logfile fragments and common corruptions you will see day to day in the real world.
  • Specialist Tools - A wide range of utilities and programs developed here at Sysnative which speed up or even fully automate the analysis and repair of common problems
  • A community of experts - All our Windows Update staff bring their own unique skills and experiences to our inclusive community. This allows us to solve even the most complex of issues.

Requirements

Important: The Windows Update academy is run by our volunteers in their spare time. We expect you to respect this by committing fully to the training and working through the tutorials and practice logs in a timely manner. We understand real life can get in the way and everyone learns at their own pace, but we expect to see a commitment to completing the academy.
  • The ability to commit to a lengthy training program - it may take 3-6 months before you complete the training and can start helping
  • A commitment to help in our Windows Update forum after training
    • You should not sign up for the academy if you do not intend to volunteer on the forum after completing the academy.
    • Whilst we do not require anyone to work on a set number of threads per week, we expect that you will pay it forward and help support the site
  • Some prior experience helping out on online computer tech support forums or similar is ideal but not required.
  • Moderate technical skills, including proficient knowledge of Microsoft Windows
    • We will teach you how Windows Update works, but we require at least basic knowledge of the Windows Registry and command line tools
    • Experience with tools such as FRST and Sysinternals Process Monitor would be beneficial but not essential
    • Scripting skills in languages such as batch, powershell, Python or similar are a big bonus
  • Good written communication skills with the English language and have competency in soft skills such as analysis, critical thinking and research
    • Translators are acceptable but can struggle with the technical vocabulary so cannot be relied on. All our training material is in English and all support on the site is provided in English
