Is it a good idea to run something like Wise Care 365 before Macrium? Would you have any other suggestions?
No to Wisecare or any products like it. System Ninja is a nice little program and is safe to use. Do not download its Registry Cleaning plugin. Just use the cleanup it comes with.

My wife only has 1 hard drive. Is this a candidate for Flash Drive or another alternative?
You can use the flash drive if 1. it's large enough to hold the backups and keep in mind, every time you do a fresh backup the file size will grow a bit with changes you've made to the computer like adding programs, etc. 2. I would invest in a 1-3TB internal SATA drive (platter) drive for the backups. I think they are more reliable. Stay away from Seagate. I use, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Western Digital Black or Blue would be ok.

I also found and don't remember downloading it(old age again).

I also found Utilities Depend and PrivaZer_free and Autoruns.

I don't know what Utilities Depend is, get rid of it. System Ninja will do what PrivaZer does. Autoruns is good, it's made by Microsoft formally was Sysinternals. It does what it's namesake says, tells you what autoruns on your computer and you can select and de-select programs within it to stop or autorun.

I also have System Explorer. I had a program WHOIS. It won't run so I deleted it.
Ninja setup gave an error message that the publisher is unknown. Small worry.

I ran Ninja and selected Duplicate Finder. I think it found nearly 200k files. It got hung up and stopped working.
I am going to look into it again with that search. Opened and said no junk.
I looked at the App Uninstaller and the list contains a number of programs with Data Unavailable. How would it find the program with
no data?

I went to look around Ninja and tried to run Search for Junk and it hung up again. It won't do anything and won't close.
How can I Force Close it?

On its first run, it can take a while and appear to be hung up. How long has it been running?

How can I Force Close it?

Open Task Manager and close it from there. Hit start, type task manager, then enter. Find it in the list and right-click it and choose to terminate or end.

~15 minutes. I have the Free version. I couldn't select the Run Junk in the lower right. It still has the select drive active and I have c: checked. But nothing else works.

Sorry I am drawing a blank on how to access Task Manager. No Coffee yet. I just remembered.
Stopped the Process.
How can I find out what is happening?

I just tried Ninja again and let it run for 30 minutes and the Run Junk still seemed to hang the system. There is information on the right side that seems to indicate all is well, but the whole system is locked up.

ccleaner was removed. I thought I remembered there was an issue a while back.
I run Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

Well I just bought CCLEANER PROFESSIONAL and the product is not available. Sent them an e-mail. Hope this works.

I am guessing that when the Credit card is processed I will be able to download it.
What do you think.

Yes there was a download link but the message is 'The file you are requesting is currently not available. Please try again later or contact our'
I have sent 2 e-mails and if I get no response I will call. I noticed they are also in Chicago.
Your link is how I started the CCleaner purchase.

You mentioned that when I get it DO NOT use Register Clean. I just did a regedit to see if an application I uninstalled was removed from the Register. It was not and I found quite a few programs that I don't have there. Being cautious I did nothing. Is there a safe way to cleanup
the Register or should I do it manually?
I just received an e-mail from cleverbridge Customer Support and they can't get the download to work. They gave me alternatives.
They seem to be a very responsive company. I chose the Premium to attack more issues this year.
I downloaded cctrialsetup.exe. I contacted them to make sure that I could add my key and make this good for the year.
At least they are responsive. I keep hoping the Yahoo issue close so I can get a good night sleep.
Did the Cat 2 Hurricane cause you trouble?

The going advice on the internet among most experts is: Unless you are trained in mucking about in the Windows Registry, don't mess with it. The other side of the coin is: Windows manages the Registry much better than it used to and you will see no verifiable impact on performance when you clean your registry.
That being said, I used Ccleaner to clean my registry for years without issue (that I knew of) Then I started noticing many experts online in these forums, experts that I trust and respect stating not to mess with the registry. So I stopped.

That is very good to hear.

Did the Cat 2 Hurricane cause you trouble?
Not really, my house is at the highest point of elevation at the beach. If it gets flooded, people 30 miles inland will be flooded as well.
It disrupted business and I did have to a different route to my house as some of the canals were flooded over the road. Too deep even for my truck to cross it safely.

Cat 2 is really nothing if it comes in and leaves in 12 or so hours. 25-55 mph winds dependent on where you're located in the storm. This particular storm was traveling at 2mph(usually 15-20mph) parallel to the coast and dumped 20+ inches of rain on us in 2 days. The tides were coming in at the same time so that made for more flooding. There were people on the lower backside of my neighborhood that had 3' of water in their homes.

CCleaner is installed. I ran the Health Check and removed some files. Looks good. I stayed away from the Register Option as you suggested.
Thanks and stay dry.
How do you clean up the Register safely?
