My problem on updating to Anniversary Update. CBS & SFC detected one corrupted file.

Hello everyone,

I have a problem regarding corrupt files in my laptop which hinders my update to the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update. At first, SFC and CBS detected corrupted files, but cannot fix them. For days, which I did not count, I searched and tried different methods internet can give. I've been stuck with 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND, DRSD and Duplicated issues. The other two vanished after multiple times of fixing. Though, I can download and install updates/cumulative update, but not a major upgrade. Today, after repeating sfc or restore health, they seemed reduced, but it does not assure me of smooth upgrading of my windows. Then I tried the SFCFix which pointed out the corrupt item.

Any help is appreciated... Thanks in advance...

Does this computer have multiple hard drives?

Re: My problem on updating to Anniversary Update. CBS & SFC detected one corrupted fi

Nope, I only have one drive, i.e. HDD.

(D:) is my removable drive.

Re: My problem on updating to Anniversary Update. CBS & SFC detected one corrupted fi

Try disconnecting that drive and then run the upgrade again.

Hi zcomputerwiz
, I never connect my drive (D:) to my device when installing the update. Only my mouse is connected or even that I disconnect sometimes.

Let's try the online upgrade. Please go to this page: Windows 10
Then click the 'Upgrade Now' button.
Save the .exe file, then run it. Follow the instructions to begin the upgrade.

If the installation fails, zip and attach C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log with your reply.

The installation reached at 22%, then reverted back to the previous version of Windows. This always occurs when I'm installing the updates either by media creation tool or the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant. I had my antivirus Windows Defender disabled and uninstalled my Smadav. Please take a look at my attachment below.

Re: My problem on updating to Anniversary Update. CBS & SFC detected one corrupted fi

Just to add information, I performed a system partition for Linux months ago. Last week, I attempted to convert install.esd into an ISO but did not work, because it did not find the boot.wim driver. Another thing, during my first installation using Windows media creation tool, Smadav automatically fixed some errors in registry. I am not sure if Smadav deleted or altered some drivers connected with installation. I hope that some of these activities did not cause the errors when installing the update.

Re: My problem on updating to Anniversary Update. CBS & SFC detected one corrupted fi

So if I understand correctly, this machine has a Linux bootloader?

Re: My problem on updating to Anniversary Update. CBS & SFC detected one corrupted fi

Hi, yes, you're right. GNU GRUB version 2.02^beta2-29ubuntu0.3

Re: My problem on updating to Anniversary Update. CBS & SFC detected one corrupted fi

Ah, that may be the problem. Windows attempts to update the bootloader for recovery purposes during the upgrade.

You may need to temporarily switch back to the Windows boot loader, perform the upgrade, then repair GRUB.
Do you know if you are using UEFI or Legacy/BIOS?

Re: My problem on updating to Anniversary Update. CBS & SFC detected one corrupted fi

Hi,

I already restored the boot loader for Windows and performed the upgrade using Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant however it reverted back to the previous version. I also scanned my laptop, using software from Junkware Removal Tool to ESET scanner, and found some viruses lurking in and deleted them. Performed again the sfc scanning and dism but still the same problem persists.

Maybe I just need to reset my Windows 10 or just temporarily abandon the Anniversary Update and wait for some solution in the future. Thank you very much.

Regards,
Mark

I'd like to see if there's any additional information in the setup logs if you wouldn't mind :)
Please attach C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log
