Hello Everyone;
First time here, and boy, can I use some help...Was reading a thread where you two (Richard & Tom), helped (Dee-Can) solve a problem fixing corrupt files SFC found after installing IE9 on a Vista 64 machine...I Had the same problem so I followed the advice you gave her... Deleting IE9, then IE8, rebooting both times, and reinstalling IE9...When i uninstalled IE8 and the pute reached the sign in screen and it said "Updating Stage 3 Of 3-0%-Please Do Not Turn Off Your Machine", The computer sat in that mode for 3 hours and then we had a power outage...When it started back up, the same message came on, it updated and went to sign in screen...When I got to Desktop I tried to install IE9 from the standalone installer, it failed, went to the other Microsoft site and downloaded another standalone and infact did install IE9 this time....Overjoyed-I cleaned up my files and ran a SFC and it found corrupt files and said it fixed them and the changes to the file system would take effect after reboot....I rebooted, and ran SFC again....Same thing, and this time theres "A-LOT" of corrupt files..It did however take care of the problem of the "inetres.admx & inetres.adml" files from the different IE's...
This was all yesterday Today I have run SFC 2-3 times finding the same stats. I gave myself access to the logs, and cleared them each time today, to see if anything was different, its' still the same...I tried everything I could think of---ran System Update Reddiness Tool--It found no problems...I also noticed everytime I rebooted after running SFC, on the sign off screen, I get the mesage "Installing Updates" for a few seconds...Would greatly appreaciate any help....I Feel like Iv'e a brick wall...:banghead:
I've attached 2 fresh CBS files--One before reboot & one after...Hope they help...Thanks in advance

Hello Bobster52, and welcome to Sysnative :)

I will be happy to help you with your problem. Thanks for uploading your log files and for providing such a detailed account of what you have already tried.

However, can I please ask you not to try anything further out of other old threads. The posted fixes are all computer specific, and sometimes old threads are more different than is initially apparent. Fixes from old threads can cause serious system harm.

It appears that all has gone well so far, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I don't want to risk having anything go wrong. Thank you :)

Anyway, please perform the following:

System Look
Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
    Code:
    :filefind
    Wdf01000.mof
    Wdf01000Uninstall.mof
  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.

Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Thank you,

Richard

Good Morning Richard;
Thanks for such a quick reply...I really appreciate you helping me get this fixed, don't know what you're schedual is, or what time it is over there, but if you have the time, I'll be online all day...:dance:

Sooooooooo....I downloaded "SystemLook" and pasted the code in it, and ran it, and it told me it was searching in WOW64 and I needed to use the 64-Bit version to be acurate...So I'll Be attaching both Text files which I labeled for you...I'll be standing by...Thanks again...Bobster52....View attachment SystemLook x 32.txtView attachment SystemLook x 64.txt

Hello again :)

Evening now for me at least :p

Thanks for getting the 64bit version. You were absolutely correct. I dropped in the wrong link.

Anyway,

  • Please download the System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft ->here<-. Save the tool to a convenient location as it may be necessary to run it again.
  • After the download has completed, double-click the file and wait while it initializes.
  • Click Yes to begin installation.

Then please upload C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Thank you,

Richard

Hi Richard;
Have already Run The SURT but from a different microsoft page, and it found nothing, a couple days ago...However I will gladly run it again and attach the CheckSur.persist.log...Give me a few minutes, and I'll get right back at ch'a....Thanks again.....Bobster

Hey Richard;
Back again, and I downloaded the SURT from the web page you sent, and while its running I figured it would be a good time to "Pick your brain", so to speak....I know you said in your last post that "Its Nighttime" where your at, and I'm assuming you will be going home, and i hope that you have a restful evening....I do appreciate your helping me with this problem, and I will post that file you want as soon as its done...What I wanted to ask, is weather or not you'll be posting this weekend, (most people take the weekend off)...The reason for this is I have to help my 97 year old Mother tomorrow between 9:00am and 3:00pm, and won't be back online until after that...If you'll be available, let me know...If not, its no problem, and have a wonderful weekend, and we can pick back up on Monday....Sorry this post was so winded:thud:Bobster52

Hi, Bobster52.

Richard is in the U.K. which makes his time 5 hours ahead of Florida. Since we're all volunteers, it isn't a matter of going home, but rather providing help as time permits between family, school, work, and other real-life situations -- as you yourself have. We don't take weekends off but it does take time to analyze the logs and determine the next steps. Hopefully you will have some sort of reply from Richard after you return home tomorrow.

Hi Corrine;
Nice to meet you, and thanks for clairifying things for me...So glad I found this sight, you guys are really great...

Hi, Bobster52.

You are very welcome. I heartily agree with you about Sysnative. There is an amazing variety of talent available for help with computer-related questions and problems. (Give your Mom a hug tomorrow!)

Hello again :)

Can you please backup and upload the following files for me:

C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-wdf-kernellibrary_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.22470_none_d2afa6c6ef9fe4f6\Wdf01000Uninstall.mof

Thank you for your continued patience. It takes time to analyse the logfiles, work out what is happening, collect together replacement files, put together a fix, etc. etc.

However, I will be beginning the fix in my next post. I pretty much have it nailed down, but just want to confirm one final point with those files before I begin.

Thank you,

Richard

Hi Richard;
Sorry...a bit late...Need A little help with this one...Where and how do I find them, back them up and Up-load them...Do I need to Un-hide files, ect....I dont see them in the C: \Windows folder...Sorry
Bobster:eek:

Hello Again Richard;
Sorry it took me so long to figure out....But I think I got it:rofl12:....I had to un-hide them, then I had to zip them to get them to go to the desktop, then i just put them in a folder labeled "Winsxs Files"....Did'nt mean to make more work for you, but all the Data you asked for is there, (Greek to me)...Anyway I left them in the winsxs folder, changed everything back to hide, just figured out I did'nt need to unhide them in the first place, (Did I mention I'm 1/2 Polish?) and kept a backup copy on my desktop...really excited that you'll be working on a fix in the next post...Thanks so much again...Bobster52...Afterthought...View attachment amd64_microsoft-windows-wdf-kernellibrary_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16885_none_d039faf5d95f51b8.zipView attachment amd64_microsoft-windows-wdf-kernellibrary_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18289_none_d2243ac3d6824805.zipView attachment amd64_microsoft-windows-wdf-kernellibrary_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.22470_none_d2afa6c6ef9fe4f6.zipView attachment amd64_microsoft-windows-wdf-kernellibrary_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6002.22806_none_d4e7d728ec87fa9e.zip...Won't let me up-load the last file (is duplicate), but when you open it, it contains both extensions in that folder...God hope i did this right...Have a good night, Talk with you soon...

Morning Richard;
Just waking up--noon your time...Going for breakfast, will catch up with you in a couple of hours...Bobster52

Hello Bobster :)

You did an excellent job with those files. Thank you.

I would just like to explain what is going on. Basically, you do not have a simple corruption. If you did, we would be done by now.

Instead, you have something much, much rarer, and for which there is no published information. Therefore I must work from first principals, and attempt to identify the cause of your error.

Your latest CBS.log indicates a very similar thing is happening to Wdf01000.mof and Wdf01000Uninstall.mof that happened to your Internet Explorer files. SFC is misidentifying the files as corrupt, and is repeatedly flicking two versions back and forth. I am also concerned by the fact that SFC is making two replacements of the same file per cycle. This does not sound like a recipe for success.

Anyway, I have performed extensive tests over the last couple of days (hence the delay between some of my posts), and I have finally come up with a theory for why this may be. Let's give it a test.

Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products

Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop.

Now right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.

Then please upload it to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big for here). If you have a Microsoft Account, SkyDrive could be a good choice: https://skydrive.live.com/

Provide me a link to the upload.

Thank you :)

Richard

Not at all. Don't hesitate to ask if you need any help. Is RegBak going alright?

Hey Richard;
Just finished uploading the file to SkyDrive...Put it into the Public Folder and when I clicked on share---It sends me to a link where it wants me to put in an e-mail address---Should I just use the address admin@sysnative.com ???--Will you be able to retrive it???

Could you copy the URL (the link to the webpage in the very top of your browser), and paste it here? It would be easier for me than emailing it. It will probably start with https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=...

If you can just paste that here, that would be awesome.
