[SOLVED] Outlook 2010: I can't send/receive emails with a hotmail account. FIX: I switched to "Outlook for windows" (free app): it allows OAUTH authentication.

I have outlook 2010 on three machines and none of them can connect to HotMail server. this problem started about 1 month ago. I can go to Hot mail directly on the browser but not with outlook which is my preferred method.
Outlook connects with my other email accounts but not with hotmail. I have checked the settings and changed them many times to no avail. I have looked at forums where people have found a solution but non work for me.
This is my last resort hope you can help.
Tell me if my outlook 2010 is so outdated it is not going to work. It is amazing that both are Microsoft products and they won't work together.

I am aware that hotmail is Outlook .com I also know that the incoming server is live.com and the outgoing server is outlook.com. They have been that for a long time. Those settings worked until about 1 month ago. My software OUTLOOK 2010 will not connect with their server.
I have also gone into Hotmail account on the server and changed the password also changed it to the same in my software. Still I can see my email on the web but not in my software OUTLOOK 2010.

Outlook and other apps are unable to connect to Outlook.com when using Basic authentication - Microsoft Support

In the coming months, we will be working to fully remove support for Basic authentication from Outlook.com, and only rely on OAuth (also known as Modern authentication).

The following versions of Outlook Desktop do not support OAuth for Outlook.com: Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016 MSI, Outlook 2019 LTSC. Any release of Outlook Desktop with a version less than 11601.10000 does not support OAuth for Outlook.com.

Yes I can read my emails on line but not in my software.
Apparently XILOLEE has the answer that I was afraid of. Now I wonder if there is a standalone version of outlook that does not require purchase of the whole office suite.
I am thoroughly familiar with office 2010 and happy with it. I don't want to switch to the online versions of office.
 
If you prefer to have the mail permanently on your computer, a free Client like Thunderbird might be a good alternative to Outlook.

I (now) checked your previous topics: you are using Windows 7 x64 SP1.
But the free outlook is for Windows 10 version 17763.0 or higher.

Thunderbird 115.16.2esr is the final release of Thunderbird 115.
And it is the last one compatible with windows 7, windows 8, windows 8.1.

Claws-mail is another program that supports OAUTH2, but it is not clear if windows 7 is supported.
Anyway, you can try it: Claws-Mail for Windows (64-bit) 4.3.0-1

I tried Thunderbird, but even with the beta I'm (still) not able to send messages.
By the way, I received them.
(Hotmail.com account)

EDIT: finally I did it with the latest 128.3.3esr x64 (normal) version .
