Removing drive letter taking too much time

Hi,

I have a windows 7 x64 pc with 2 drives.
One is system drive and the other is a backup drive.
I was assigning drive letter and removing via diskpart batch files easy until I have changed the 2 TB backup drive to a bigger 6 TB drive.
When I assign the drive letter it is instantly no problems.
When removing drive letter it is taking up to 2 minutes , sometimes even more up to 5 minutes.
I could not find why this is happening. The drive being big could be a reason?

Any help will be appreciated.

If anything (Anti-Virus, backup program, etc.) is accessing any files on the drive, this can sometimes take a while.

You can use Process Monitor to check this.

When removing drive letter it is taking up to 2 minutes , sometimes even more up to 5 minutes.

I should imagine that it has to unmount the volume and is therefore waiting for anything which is accessing that volume to "release" it.
