I had briefly tried Shadow Explorer but never had any success finding shadow copies of registry files

- when you couldn't boot the copy of windows that created them

- and were accessing the hard drive using another working system.

Should this work?

Having a regular automatic registry backup or a working system restore point is obviously much better anyway.
