I had a german shorthaired pointer for thirteen years. The best pet I'd ever owned in my life and a great companion to not just me, but for my wife and kids too. Spent a fortune on her by don't regret a single cent. Then I had to have her put down when she got very sick and was suffering. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life. Putting her down hurt so much that I haven't been able to bring myself to get another dog since. I think it would have been easier if she had just died naturally.
