Hello guys,

I've another server that I'm having problems with when trying to install Windows Updates. The error codes are, 0x80240034 & 0x80070002.

This is on a server running 2019 v1809 build 17763.3532. I have ran the component scanner which hasn't found any errors. I've also tried the following:

1) sfc / scannow
2) dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth (no corruptions found)
3) dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (successful)
4) manually downloading the failing updates via MS Update Catalog (same errors)
5) cleared out windows update cache and components

Any help you could provide would be very much appreciated.

Cheers!

Hi,

Export CBS (Component Based Servicing) hive
  • Click on the Start button and type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).

  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

Do you have recent bakups of this server, this because the hive is damaged beyond repair! Several subkeys are completely missing.

Ah, yes I do. Is there any way to find out how far back I'd need to go to choose a good restore point?

Please provide the SYSTEM hive from the last backup, ZIP this file and send the download link in a private message because this hive contains sensitive data.

Okay, I'll need to do this part out of hours so I'll send you a PM with the link tomorrow.

Thanks.
