Hello.

A wile ago, around the beginning of december 2019, I had an overnight problem with my graphics card. Games I would play normally up to that point would not start due to noe being compatible with my graphics card.
After some tinkering (Which sadly, by this point I can't remember) some games went back to functioning, but at very low graphic settings.

Today, Jan 10 2020, I tried to reinstall the driver for my graphics card, but was met with this message:

Update drivers - Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Windows encountered a problem instralling the drivers for your device
Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them
Intel(R) HD Graphics 620
The configuration registry database is corrupt
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit their website and check the support section for drivers.

My Laptop is an HP Laptop 17-bs0xx, running Windows 10 Home 64-bit.

I want to fix my graphics card.

I'm attaching two DxDiag diagnostics from back when I first encountered the problem, and one from a few hours ago.

Thanks in advance,
Maci

Hi!

Step 1 - Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Afterwards, everything should work.
