Exact procedure for Windows 10 by MS:

  • Open Control Panel.
  • Under Programs, select Uninstall a program.
  • In the left pane, select Turn Windows features on or off.
  • In the Windows Features screen, expand Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) Server and then select all available components.
  • Select OK to install all necessary MSMQ components.

Hi,

Please do the following first.

Follow these instructions to remove an update.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
Code:
wusa /uninstall /KB:5011503
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or you get the message: The update KB5011503 is not installed on this computer.

Download the

Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following (code) into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
Code:

  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards try to install the MSMQ feature again, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Hi see attached. MSMQ now installed - thanks!
Couple of questions:
Is it KB5011503 thats causing the issue ?
We have a few other devices with the same MSMQ issue, do you know if KB5011503 that needs to be removed or does this depend on the device as could be different KB's number ?
Can I use the same fixlist.txt file for all the remaining devices ?

So to clarify - the process to getting MSMQ installed is as follow;
Ensure fixlist.txt is on the desktop
Run FRST.exe press fix button, this will execute the fixlist.txt file and delete registry relating to KB5011503.
Once completed, install MSMQ
Reboot
Run windows updates.

Is this correct ?

Yes, KB5011503 was the issue which was partially removed from the system.
Can I use the same fixlist.txt file for all the remaining devices ?
No, see also this thread for de do's and dont's with FRST!

So please post the CBS logs for the other system(s) in this thread and I will check them and provide the correct Fixlist for that system as well.

Great - thanks
FOr our learning reference.
Whats cause the MSMQ to not be installed ? particular minimum components need to be installed prior ?
How is the KB's effects MSMQ ?

Any logical explaination would be very much appreciated.

Unfortunately, there is no logical explanation rather than remnants will cause such issues with installing new updates, specific features or roles on server versions.
So for each system you'll need to check the CBS logs to find the issue!
