It's funny you mentioned xp as when I was searching the term 'mini kernel dump' I did find a Microsoft support page that mentioned 'mini kernel dumps' but only in relation to xp.
You may receive an error message when you open a "Mini Kernel Dump" file that was generated by a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP Professional
