Hello,

I'm having some issues updating one of my 2022 servers. At first I was having issues getting KB5034439 to install and was getting that error related to the size of the recovery partition. Without doing anything on my side except attempting the update a couple more times Windows was able to move past this and/or hid the update on its own - it's not installed and Windows is no longer trying to install it. It's now attempting to install two/three other updates that also to fail, this time with error code 0x80070002, however. I tried uninstalling all recent updates and running the update service again but the error persists. The updates it's attempting to install are KB2267602, KB5037033, & KB5036909. Depending on the attempt I've noticed that sometimes it will only try to install two of those, but I don't know why.

Requested logs and files are attached. Any help that can be provided is greatly appreciated.

Note- After running the sfc and dism scans/repairs I attempted to update again and restarted again. Not sure if that means you'll need me to run the tools one more time or not.

Ran the scans again just in case. Most recent logs attached (ComponentsScanner remains unchanged).

Also forgot to mention - I previously tried resolving this by installing the updates individually manually. They seemed to succeed until restart when they get rolled back by Windows.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload the setupapi.dev.log file
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\INF folder.
  • Right-click on the file setupapi.dev.log and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file setupapi.dev.zip in your next reply.

  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

Thank you. I ran the SFCFix with the zip you provided and then ran the SFC scan but that failed with the following error -
There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart
Windows and run sfc again.

This was due to the updates that Windows had pending again so I tried to update and restart which caused the updates to fail once more, but allowed me to run the SFC scan (which came back with no errors).

Because I restarted and tried to apply the updates again I ran the SFCFix with the zip and then another SFC scan again. The second SFC scan also finished with no errors or issues found, but SFCFix found and repaired two additional files the second time around it looks like. Logs for both runs are attached.

Hello,

Logs from the most recent SFCFix run attached. I had to run through the update and restore process before I could get the SFC scan to run again. Afterwards the scan completed and found no issues.

Please attempt to update again and provide a new copy of the CBS logs as well as the Setupapi.dev.log, it seems we'll need to fix a number of driver issues.

Hello!

Logs from the most recent SFCFix run attached.

It's bizarre to me that the OS is in such a bad state. This installation is only a couple months old and nothing special was done to it apart from some IIS deployments and configurations. In any case, thank you for your continued assistance.
