The key already had me as owner but trying to follow the instructions I changed it to my Microsoft account email address as owner.

The instructions say "Back at the regular Permissions window, select the Users group and then choose the “Allow” check box next to the “Full Control” permission." But I don't have a Users group - all I have are Everyone, OWNER RIGHTS and SYSTEM.

Added my username Administrators (PC-Joe\Administrators) and gave myself full control. Tried to change the subkeys to volsnap and got the same error message I mentioned in post #57.

I figured out what might have prevented me from editing the value: I didn't tick the "enable inheritance" box. Went back to do it and the security warning pops up: "this will replace explicitly defined permissions on all descendants of this object with inheritable permissions from volume. Do you wish to continue?"

Is this going to mess something up?

Also, is my inability to use the shut down function related to my system restore problem? The only way I can shut down my PC is to physically press the power button.

You can try this, but seeing as your issue is worsening, quite frankly I would recommend a repair install now.

What about SfcFix or Tweaking.com?

Ran SFC/ Scan this morning and it said zero corruption. Help me understand exactly what is going on here.

It seems that something within your system is corrupt, and it is not being detected by the tools.
I found the registry tweak I provided to you as it has helped many people reseolve the error you are having with System Restore.

The latest shutdown issue is telling me that there's an active process which may be preventing you from initiating a full shutdown. Is your system clean of malware?

According to Malwarebytes Premium, yes. The shutdown issue isn’t some fluke, you don’t think? It’s happened on and off the last few times I’ve tried to shut down.

Yes. Exactly same issue I stated in my initial post.

And you don't think I should try enabling the inheritance box like I mentioned back in post 68? Or could it cause me to become unable to boot?

No I didn't create a new user account. I'll try that but I'm sure it won't matter.

As far as backing up, I would think a backup through Windows 10 would fail. I can manually copy my documents/pictures/music to an external, though, I suppose.

Before trying the registry tweak again, do you have any faith that the Tweaking.com Windows Repair would help?

I thought you already tried it, didn't you?
It could suffice to run the 4th (register system files) and the 18th (repair volume shadow copy service) repairs.
Developer of the program suggests you should do it in safe mode.

Backups and system image should be put on external drives, then disconnected from the machine.

Created a new user account with admin rights. Same problem.

Couldnt Use Windows 10 backup to backup my files due I suppose to the aforementioned problem. Had to do it manually.

currently running tweaking.com but couldn’t run it in safe mode due to the “bitlocker filed are missing or corrupt” error message. I don’t expect this to work.

Is repair install going to work given my issues?

Why is sfcfix not an option to give me the clean files to replace the corrupt or missing ones?

Tweaking.com did not solve my issue. Would you like to see the logs?

I went back and checked the registry tweak you suggested. There are 12 subkeys under the volume key that I was unable to change service from "volume" to "volsnap". For what it's worth I am now able to change one of them, the 2nd subkey of the 12.

I looked at my running processes and there is nothing that looks out of place. What is the likelihood that this is a case of missing files rather than corrupt files?
