Greetings, for a few reasons I am upgrading an old Windows 7 64bi Pro machine to Win 10.

Upgrade works for a while then fails with 0x80070003-0x2000D
SAFE_OS phase - MIGRATE_DATA operation

I have run through the steps listed on the Windows Update Forum Posting steps and attached those files.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Not sure why it's failing ....

Hi @the-limper,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hello and welcome,

Attach the following files when available:
C:\Windows\setupapi.log
C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log

Thanks!
I did not find the first file with that exact name in that location but I did find one similar in the Windows\INF dir and the second one as well.

setupapi.app.log
setupapi.dev.log

I have attached them as a zip file.

MiniToolBox and save the file on your desktop.

Note: Save all your work and close all programs!
Rightclick "MiniToolBox" and select "Run as administrator".

If you see the startup message "Are you sure you want to continue?" select Yes.
Put checkmarks at following items:
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (Only Problems)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
  • List Minidump Files
  • List Restore Points
Click "Go".
When the scan is finished a log file with the name "MTB.txt" will appear on your desktop.
Attach this log file to your next reply.

Apologies for the delayed response. I somehow missed that you replied.

MTB.txt file is attached.

No problem about the delay.

You have a lot of programs installed. Do you need all those old Java versions and Java tools ?
There is a problem with a program called "PDEngine". Was "Perfect Disk" ones installed ?

I would like to have a more detailed log of your system.
FRST Scan:
  1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  2. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  3. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  6. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

I uninstalled almost all java versions. Also, yes, Perfect Disk was installed. I uninstalled it and tried the update again but received the same error.

Attached is FRST and Addition text files.

The first step is to cleanup some remnants and temporary files. The second step is to remove NVIDIA. An NVIDIA driver which is most likely the reason why the upgrade fails.

Step 1:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Attach the logfile Fixlog.txt to your next reply.

Step 2:
Uninstall all NVIDIA programs:
- NVIDIA Graphics Driver 474.30
- NVIDIA HD Audio Driver 1.3.38.40
- NVIDIA PhysX System Software 9.19.0218

Step 2:
Try the upgrade to Windows 10 again and report the result.

I ran the script and then uninstalled all the Nvidia drivers.
Ran the update again but it failed with the same error code.

Log attached.

Copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to your desktop.
Zip the copied file and the files C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log and C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.app.log.
Attach the new zipfile to your next reply.
