Win7 (32 & 64 bit) systems that will not install any updates to .NET Framework

Yes. Exactly, I want you to extract the files from it in order to bypass that exe file and run the setup (that's contained within it). If you are not sure how to do this, let me know, and I will extract the files for you.

No I should be good. I'll have to install something like 7Zip on this system but shouldn't be an issue.

Okay...did the following:

Installed 7zip.
Extracted the .exe to a new folder and ran setup.exe.

Here's the output:

Went to the link at the bottom of that and reviewed the article. The blocking issue message in the screenshot above matches none of the ones lined out in that article. I did look at the mentioned registry keys and here is what I saw.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Compatibility Assistant\Persisted

Notice no "layers" key

I can run it if you think I should. I don't see any signs of it being installed but that doesn't mean it's not. Is there a way to check it or should I just download and install?

Honestly, I can't say. I thought the plan was to completely replace the hardware but if that is the plan it's slow in the making. At this point, I'm not opposed to throwing in the towel and calling this a lost cause. Unless you've got a few cards left in the deck to play yet.

Okay, I'm going to have to set this aside for today. I'll get to that on Monday..hopefully.

Okay I was able to run the FRST process again this morning. The search completed but I get a pop up saying "Cannot find the C:\users\ltadmin\desktop\searchregtxt file. Do you want to create a new file?"

Not sure if this is expected output (meaning we've cleaned up any/all references to .NET) or if this is an indication of any error.

loaded the reg string in an elevated command prompt. once complete I right-clicked to run as administrator the FRST.exe (FRST64.exe will not run on this system b/c it is a 32 bit OS), typed .NET framework in the search box and hit search registry.

Yeah I'm a believer this system was hosed even before I opened this thread honestly. I don't know that I can get the resources in place to do that work. I'm completely okay with closing this thread out as I don't believe without some drastic work we'll ever get it back to functional.
