Re: Issues with avast and the windows media player having corrupt manifests

I'll need to see C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSur.log

Please try only attaching that one file, not the entire CBS folder :)

If it won't attach here, try using a file service such as SendSpace and include the link with your reply.

A note: if you want to upgrade this computer to Windows 10, please be sure to do it today - go here: Windows 10
and click the Upgrade Now button.

Re: Issues with avast and the windows media player having corrupt manifests

I am not sure if the updgrad to windows 10 was specifically for me or you put it on your title just for everyeone that you talk to. Im not a fan of 8.1 and I get the fact that windows 10 is a big update to correct lall of the issues with 8.1. Im going to pass. :)

Re: Issues with avast and the windows media player having corrupt manifests

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
 5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Re: Issues with avast and the windows media player having corrupt manifests

I am not sure if I goit this working or not. I followed your advise and installed visual c runtime but there seems to be an issue with c ++2005 (X64). IT IS STILL GIVING ERROR MESSAGES.

Re: Issues with avast and the windows media player having corrupt manifests

I assume updates or .net framework versions haven't been uninstalled?

Does this machine restart unexpectedly, bluescreen, etc.?

I'd like to check the health of the disk.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

 • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
 • Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe; To extract you can right-click your mouse on the GSmartControl.zip file and select Extract.
 • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
 • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
 • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
 • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

Re: Issues with avast and the windows media player having corrupt manifests

I have run a couple of programs to look at the health of the harddrive. The results showed that there were a small number of write errors but nothing outside of the norm. My recollection was that it was normal to have 50- 70 errors at this point in its life and there were more like 100. It seemed like the health of the drive was ok. I attributed the excessive number of write errors to a virus. Probably not going into immediate failure any time soon. I will run Gsmart control to see the results and then post them. I have always had an issue with the .net framework. I remedied the issue about a year ago and I wrote notes on what I did but I cannot find them right now. If I recall correctly there was a program that installs .net version 2.0577. something. it either gets corrupted or removed when that program is removed. I cannot figure out how to reinstall it. Then it causes issues with the reminder of .net. I also remember that someone installed Visual Studio at one time. It seems to have some .net files that are not available in other .net updates. Maybe it doesn't but if Visual Studio is removed it seems to want some .net versions installed even after I install them. I know that windows 7.1 has .net 3.5 and 4.0? as part of the operating system and all I have to do is go to the control panel and turn them on as part of windows system or turn them off. Currently when I run the .net setup verifier tool it says that:"

I have verified .net 1.1sp1
.net framework 2.0 sp2 verification failed
.net framework 3.0 sp2 product verification failed
.net framework 3.5 sp1 product verification failed
.net framework 4.0 client product verification succeeded
.net framework 4.0 Full product verification succeeded
.net framework 4.5 product verification succeeded
.net framework 4.5.1 product verification succeeded
.net framework 4.5.2 product verification succeeded
.net framework 4.5.6 product verification succeeded
.net framework 4.6.1 product verification succeeded

Re: Issues with avast and the windows media player having corrupt manifests

I also get the error message dxwsetup.exe - System Error red x The prgram can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
