I've been attempting to install the 2017-06 Security Monthly Quality Rollup (KB4022719) for the past couple of weeks without success. Windows Update reports an installation failure 0x80004005.

Chkdsk reports no errors, SURT reports no errors but has a couple of expired warnings in CheckSUR.log. sfc /scannow reports no errors either. I've ran SFCFix which reports no errors either.

Clean booting in safe mode makes no difference, the KB4022719 update still fails.
I've been through the resetting the Windows Update components steps twice as mentioned here, including step 4, and the update still reports the same error.

There wasn't any problems before this update - other updates had installed fine. In fact I've even tried installing optional ones since and they work okay.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to the source of the problem so would appreciate some expert advice.

Regards
Michael

You might have a corrupt download of the update. (not anything on your part but on MS servers)

I found directions to remove everything in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder
I'm pretty conservative so I'd hesitate to remove everything. Have a look in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
if you see some entries from the past two weeks (the time period you've been trying to install the update), I'd select just those for removal. Or you could move them out of that folder and onto your desktop to archive them just in case removing them doesn't fix the problem. Then you'd have them to move back into the folder.

After you either removed or simply moved the suspected problem downloads out of the folder, reboot. Try the update again.

Thanks for your reply.
I stopped the Windows Update service, renamed both the Download and Datastore folders and restarted the service. After rebooting I tried the update again but it fails with the same error. I repeated the process again but this time using KB4022719 downloaded from the MS Catalog and tried a manual update instead. I still get the same error unfortunately.
As before, running sfc /scannow shows no errors and neither does SFCFix...

Any suggestions welcome.

Just to let you know that the July Monthly Security roll-up (KB4025341) installed okay. Since it includes the previous months fixes then the initial problem doesn't need to be fixed. I guess it was a bug with last months rollup....

Thanks to those who replied.
