Hi,

Ever since Windows 10 was released (a long time ago), I've been trying to install it. But every time, I get the error code of "800703F1". I've seen others with the same problem all around the web, but all solutions I've found so far either don't work or are user specific, which isn't much use to me.

I've tried an SFC scan and a DISM cleanup image, with no luck. On my first try, the SFC scan reported corruption, but the DISM fixed it, which got my hopes up and I immediately tried installing Windows 10. After three tries I realized it didn't work, it still gave me 800703F1. Now all my SFC scans report no corruption, so that's probably not the problem.

If it's caused by a graphics driver, then yes, I have an Nvidia card of the GTX series.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome!

Please zip and attach the installation log from the Windows 10 upgrade.

You can find it in C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log

I don't see the error referenced.

Please try the following:

Looks like DISM is happy.

Go here: Windows 10
Choose the 'upgrade now' option, then save and run the executable.

Choose the option to download updates for the installation.

If the installation fails, zip and attach C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log

Still no luck, although I couldn't find the option to "download updates for the installation". I could only see two options: "Upgrade now" and "Upgrade tonight" (then an option to choose time).

Anyway, here's the SetupAct:

Looks like setup can't read your boot configuration.

    bcdedit /enum all /v > %UserProfile%\Desktop\BCDInfo.txt

  4. Once this command completes, attach the BCDInfo.txt file on your Desktop.

Do you dual boot this machine or use any third party boot loader (GRUB etc.)? Acer might have something custom configured for the recovery partition.

  6. Type exit then press enter to exit DISKPART.

I don't dual boot and I don't use any third party boot loaders. I don't know if Acer has something configured but it sure does feel like plain old Windows.

Here's the diskpart anyway

I can't create a Factory Default Backup because "some required files are missing". Do I create a Drivers and Applications Backup instead?

I'm not sure how to do all this in Windows 8.1 and I don't know if I have that media DVD as Windows was pre-installed on my computer.

And no, I don't have an image backup.

To create a system image backup:

[h=2]Use System Image Backup[/h]
[h=3]To open System Image Backup[/h]
  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
    (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.)
  • Enter File History in the search box, tap or click File History, and then click System Image Backup.

You will need an external hard drive to store the image on.

To create Windows 8.1 media, you will need a blank DVD or spare flash drive.

Follow the instructions here: Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help
