Hello,

I was planning to update my pc after a long time. Windows update keeps failing on installing the updates where Error 0x800703e6 persists after multiple tries and restarts.

I am new to windows troubleshooting and do not understand the process much. I followed instructions I found for the same problem, these are listed below :

1. Windows updater troubleshooter returned no issues identified.

2. sfc /scannow returned "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."

3. dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth returned "The component store cannot be repaired. The operation completed sucessfully."

4. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth returned "Error:998 Invalid access to memory location.

5. All attempts to do an in place upgrade using iso failed

6. After checking the the DISM log, "Failed to load core" lines for a servicing stack folder appeared throughout.

A post suggested that copying a cbscore.dll from the windows 10 iso and pasting it to my Winsxs directory will solve the issue. But I checked the directory listed as failed to load and the cbscore.dll file is there.
Since I do not understand much of this and there are posts saying Winsxs should not be tampered with, I hesitate on replacing that dll file.
I am trying to upgrade to Windows 11 and I do not know if this error is what is preventing my system from upgrading.

Any help or input would be much appreciated!

Thank you very much for the help, the DISM command worked as it should and updates are working perfectly.
I really appreciate this!
