Have you tried turning off the fast startup feature through the power options in Windows 8?

Right click the lower left corner.

Choose Control Panel

Select System and Security

Select Power Options

Select Choose what the power buttons do

Select Change settings that are currently unavailable

Uncheck the box to Turn on fast startup (recommended)
