Hi, again!

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.
4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Windows Features dialog. Wait until this dialog populates with information. If this does not happen for some reason, please continue with the steps anyway.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps.
5. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
6. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
7. Copy and paste
KB4338818 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
8. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please attach this to your next reply. It is saved on your desktop named SearchReg.txt.
9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Thanks for the quick reply ...is there another way to do this at the moment? I would have to get approval from my customer to run this 3rd party app on their servers and if I run it without approval I will get severely chastised as I did when I first downloaded and ran SFCFix.exe on their network . If not, I will try to get approval but it could be as long as a week before I get approval and I need to patch this server tonight.

Thanks.

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.1-KB4338818-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4338818-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

Thanks ...just ran it successfully with no errors and was prompted to reboot, however, I cannot reboot until tonight at 10 PM EDT. After I reboot it I will attempt to apply the Monthly Rollup and let you know what happens.

Success! After installing KB4338818 via DISM and rebooting I was able to install the Monthly Rollup with no problem.
