Hi @HamUser123,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hello and welcome,

Follow the instructions below please.

Step 1:
WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download

SFCFix and move the executable to your desktop.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
    1p8eDnI.gif
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Attach that file to your next reply.

Step 2:
Restart the machine.
Run the command sfc /scannow in an elevated commandprompt and report the result.
If it fails, copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to your desktop.
Zip the copied file and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Thank you, the earliest I can reboot this server is Saturday this weekend. I'll keep you informed.

Ok, no problem.

2025-01 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5049993) still fails to install. SFC /scannow after fix said:

sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
  1. Right-click the Start button and select Command Prompt (Administrator)
  2. If you get a popup about UserAccountControl, allow the program to run.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.
    Code:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for this to finish before you continue

    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Gofile or WeTransfer and just provide the download link.

I ran this DISM today:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.14393.0

Image Version: 10.0.14393.0

[==========================100.0%==========================]
Error: 1726

The remote procedure call failed.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

This happened on Sunday when I ran DISM after the SFC /scannow, after the sfcfix.exe.

Attached are the two files requested.

DISM succeeds this time and says no issues found.

Trying Windows Update... it got to 10% so far, that's encouraging.

The update got to 100% and then still failed with:
2025-01 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5049993) - Error 0x80073701

I've been given the green light to reboot this server tonight, so I'll try again then, if there's nothing else for now.

Provide a fresh copy of the file cbs.log.

The cbs.log rolled over.
Provide the newest file CbsPersist_<date><time>.log or .cab
