Upload your COMPONENTS hive.

• Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
• Please copy this file to your desktop.

• Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.

Hi,

I would suggest to clone this server first and create a snapshot so you can easily revert this clone. Then we can test some things safely to see if it will resolve the issues with the fr-FR language pack.

Okay makes sense. Unfortunately, the server is not virtualized. I will therefore have to carry out the steps offline on site. And if necessary, I'll have to import the backup.

But that won't happen in the next few weeks because I won't be on site.

Can you still tell me what I can do here so that I can work through the necessary steps when I am on site?

With the Sysinternals tool Disk2vhd you can create an VHD file of an physical disk. With this virual disk you can setup an Hyper-V environment of this server.

Hello Maxstar,
I have now created a VM from the server. This is running on the affected server in Hyper-V. I have not assigned a network card to it. If you say the machine needs Internet access, I still have to make a switch that only allows Internet but isolates the machine from the rest of the network.

Or is the machine without Internet sufficient for testing?

Hi,

Please create a virual switch in Hyper-V to connect this VM to the internet. Then I would install the French language pack first to see if next Cumulative Update will install without any issues.
