[SOLVED] Windows Task Scheduler service is disabled, can not be started

I received very valuable help here, more than a year ago for a thorny (for me) issue. Another has popped up, and after much web searching with no success, I'm hoping someone will be able to get me out of another jam.

Two weeks ago, I had 2 days of relentless malware warnings. I run registered versions of Avira, Bitdefender, Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, CCleaner, and Spybot (not all at once or all the time). Avira was generating warnings every 2 to 3 minutes.

After using the tools I have, and a couple of days time removing located threats, the warnings stopped, and full Avira, Malwarebytes, and Ad-Aware scans were coming back clean, however, the next morning I noticed my scheduled system backups had not run for more than a week (Macrium Reflect). Opened Admin. Tools, Services, and Task Scheduler is disabled. I've tried to start it many times, and it usually returns a "remote computer not connected" or similar notice.

I do have full backups every other day for 14 days prior to the problem, and can rebuild my drives, but I did a few commercial software installs just before the issue recurred, had significant data changes during the time the backups had ceased, and wanted to see if anything seemed obvious to the experienced users here, before I started rebuilding.

Windows 7 Ultimate, 24G ram, Rampage III Extreme.

Could you please confirm the state of Task Scheduler service (CTRL+R -> services.msc) and provide a screenshot with the error?

Please try the following:

  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt by right-clicking on CMD.EXE shortcut in your start menu and selecting Run As Administrator from the context menu.
  2. Type the following commands:
    Code: 
    REG EXPORT HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule %TEMP%\Schedule.reg
REG ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule /F /V Start /T REG_DWORD /D 2
  3. Reboot the computer.
 
Bingo! That got task scheduler running, and many other services that were stopped as well. I use selective startup, as I have WAY too much software and external hardware installed and attached to this machine, but I don't recall messing with the services section, yet I, or something else did.

When I try to create a basic task I get the same issue. Followed the above exactly.

When I rebooted, the computer asked for the password, as usual and booted as usual about 30 seconds after rebooting I got the BSOD and Msg My first problem with Win 10

If you'd like to know more, you can search online for this error: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

Still at 0% after ten minutes, seems frozen, did a hard reboot and tried to use the "command prompt, as admin, SFC/SCANNOW but could only get SFC typed before it crashed again. Typing this from my laptop Sure could use some help.

I do have recent system restore point, but can't access it in time.
 
I was able to access system restore through settings before windows booted up. I had a good restore point and clicked on it. For the past 2 hours I have been watching the little blue window turned slightly sideways (i that helps describe it) and the clockwise circular dots going. Also the hard disk light is going off and on, so I guess it is not frozen, ie, doing something.

Since it may be in the longest restore I have ever seen, I am reluctant to turn it off.

Someone PLEASE HELP! still on my laptop

Can't see it could help, but my Laptop is also Win 10 it is new so that W10 is native. The desktop is upgraded from Win 7 Ult. Haven'y got a clue about how I could reinstall or repair beyond what I have done.

How much new? 6 months? 1 year? 5 days?
If warranty is still active, maybe it's better to bring the pc to the assistance.
If not, have you already tried to open your pc and to remove gently and carefully the dust?
I'd remove the dust inside the pc (especially the dust on FANS and their "breathers"/"the air slits"(???)) and I'd put a new layer of thermal past on the processor.
 
Dust? I can do that. But the problem was immediate after doing the above. Don't think it was dust. The desktop is a few years old. That is where I have the problem. The laptop is fine.

Still getting the dots moving in a circle on the monitor. Maybe the system restore is still trying? Been five hours, now. Been warned not to turn it off during restore. But ?????
 
Then it crashed. I think there is something flaky in my OS C: SSD drive. It is not showing up in the 'setup''. I have tried jiggling wires, will try replacing them. I don't think this problem had anything to do with the advice I got here. I am calling my techno-geek and arranging a house call.. Will keep you advised..
 
What worked for me is, I've changed the value of "start" DWORD (32-bit) from 4 to 3 in regedit.exe at "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBrokerSvc"
