Windows update error 0x800700c1

Hello,
I am trying to update to Windows 10 22H2 but I keep getting an Install error - 0x800700c1. My goal is to upgrade to Windows 11, do I have to do all the subsequent updates first before going to Windows 11?

So far, I have tried a simple restart, running Windows Update Troubleshooter, and the repair update, but the update still fails. I tried an repair update from iso but it also failed.
I tried running dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth in CMD prompt, but I get "Error: 0x800f081f
The source files could not be found. Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

I also cannot run sfc /scannow, I get "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."

Great, but you are running a old build of Windows 10 20H2 x64 (10.0.19042.1052) which is outdated since May 2022.

So please try to install Windows 22H2 first using the following tool.

Download the
61c988c2082b1-updateassistent.png
Windows 10 Update Assistant to your desktop.
  • Right-click on Windows10Upgrade9252.exe and select the option: Run as administrator.
  • Press the Update now button, click after the compatibility check on Next.
  • The Update Assistant will now download the latest Feature Update.
  • After verifying the download, the Feature Update will be installed.
  • When this process is ready, click on the Restart now button to complete the installation.

Working that update now, just in case it takes longer and you are done for the day. What would be the next step? Or does the next step depend on the outcome of this install to Windows 22H2?

When Windows 10 22H2 installed successfully I would make a full system image (backup) first, then you can try to upgrade to Windows 11 if this system meets the hardware requirements to run Windows 11.

Okay cool. How do I make a full system image (backup) 😅. Sorry for the dumb questions. I really appreciate all your help through this. Do you also have the hardware requirements for Windows 11? I just upgraded some hardware recently so I’m hoping it meets them.

Alright it looks like I was able to update to Windows 10 22H2 successfully.
Looking at the Specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz, 2904 Mhz, 8 core(s), 16 logical processors.
RAM: 16GB with 11.7GB available
Storage: I have over 200 GB C drive with over 117GB available
System Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot is 'off', should I turn this on? How would I do that?
What is Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0? Under device security it shows "Core Isolation" but I don't know what that means.
Graphics: I just upgraded to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070

Is there anything else I need to add.

X86/x64 V5.2.2.1
You'll need this version.

Windows 11 does not require Secure Boot to be enabled, it only requires that your system supports this feature, so this is one of the requirements but optional to use.

Read more about TPM here: What Is a TPM, and Why Do I Need One for Windows 11?

Your system is compatible with Windows 11, so you can decide to upgrade after making the backup, just to be sure you can always restore the system when you have issues with Windows 11.
