Windows Update Error 80073712

Hi and good evening from Toronto,

I'm sending the two files that you have requested on your last email. I have look at those two files and the Components files are only, on each of them, 8 KB. In itself both are, almost, the same. In going to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\SM Registry Backup\ to search for the two files you wanted to see, I saw other files which they have a much larger Components files such as C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\SM Registry Backup\01-22-2015 04.11.06\ COMPONENTS. That particular file has 42,936 KB in the COMPONENTS file. (The attached picture, belongs to that particular file) There's also another COMPONENTS file in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\SM Registry Backup\02-05-2015 17.11.57\ COMPONENTS that also has in its COMPONENTS file 42,936 KB (same as the previous one). The same are in the Components file dated 02-19-2015. Only the first three files, starting from the top, have 42,936 KB in the COMPONENTS file. All files, without exception, have a lock keys.

My computer experience are very limited, I'm a 72 years of age young man, and I'm doing my best to follow instruction so that this issue can be resolved. If you request that I should send you the files that have a large COMPONENTS file, like the one in the picture, if it can be send "as is" I will have no problem, I'm also knowledgeable in compressing files zip files, and for the rest, will need further instructions. IMG_1567.jpg

In trying to upload the two Components files you have requested I got some kind of error and I'm not so sure if you received those. I compressed those files, I hope you are going to get them.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Josephus

Hello Josephus

You are doing very well with my instructions :)

Can you please copy the COMPONENTS file found within this folder to your desktop, then add it into a zip file and attach to your next post?

Alex

Hi and Good afternoon,

I'm assuming that you refer to the folder that was attached, as jpeg, to my last message. No problem. I just compress View attachment 12196
I'm seen that the Components file has been added to my message. I hope that this is the file you are looking for.

one more time,

Thanks

Good morning to you from Toronto,

Is something I'm getting out of it is that I'm learning a lot. I will never be as good as you and I never will a professional on this matters, but I'm doing my best to follow your instructions to the letter.

Anyways I download to the Desktop all the files that you have included in your last email. I did not encounter any problem for the first operation in which not only II was asked to reboot the system but, previous to it, there was a message indicating in which I was request to be patient and that the procedure may take several minutes to complete. Actually it took less than a minutes I was asked to reboot the system. I did reboot the system and I almost faint out when after the Microsoft windows show up, the monitor when completely white for more than a minute. After that, everything when to normal. On your second instructions on the issue of SFC /Scannow I encounter a message in which it reads the following: "Windows Resource protection could not perform the requested operation". nevertheless, when I went to convert the CBS log into the CBX.txt putting the code you indicated, there was a file of 1.17 MB. which is, definitely, a big file. So I download the Dropbox and I took the liberty of sending you everything there. The cbs.txt, SFCfix.txt and the two pictures 1A and 2B which make reference to my message.

I did try to attached to a dropbox but even that I created one and I put all files there, I was not successful because I do not know how to do it. So, I will send them as attachmentes. the CBS.txt has been compressed. IMG_1A.jpgIMG_2B.jpgView attachment cbs_12 May15.rarView attachment SFCFix_12May15.txt

One more time, thank you for your assistance.

Good evening from South Australia :)

It looks like SFCFix did not replace the file correctly, it is nothing you did wrong you have followed my instructions perfectly :)

Can you please go into C:\Windows\System32\Servicing and let me know the size of the COMPONENTS file?

Hi Alex and good morning to you from Toronto,

I just went to C:\Windows\System32\ and the file or folder Servicing cannot be found. I went also to Start and on search I type C:\Windows\System32\Servicing and found nothing. I also search on C:\Windows\System32\Components and there was nothing. I did also a search on C:\Windows\System32\ I click on it and I look at every file or folder looking for both Servicing and Components and I could not found any of them. Finally on search I type Components > enter and the only files that show up was the one that I already send you, as compressed file, on 11 of May.

Is there any other place I can look for it? We just keep trying. At least my system did not crash and still working. Just keep trying a solution will be found. You doing a find job and thank you

Thank you

Good Afternoon from Toronto,

First the good news, the Windows update error 80073712 has been fixed. When I follow your instructions from your last message, I got the feeling that I did something wrong. So, I went back and I try again. This time it work. How I did it? I have been working as an Engineer (graduated in Spain and Masters in South Africa) and, as such, I always makes notes and or take pictures of all my engineering activities to make sure that I do things right. The same thing I did when I encounter this error of reference. I knew that your last instructions was the the solution of the puzzle and I did my best to follow it. Unfortunately and not been a computer literate, I did realized that I must have made an error, therefore, I went back to the drawing board and I checked your instructions with my notes of the things I was doing. I did find out that, for whatever reason, I did something wrong, so, I try again and this time it did work. (I'm sending you the pictures, they are compress under the name "pictures" for you to be able to see its development)

I was not able to read the CBS file that was created. I try twice but, for whatever reason, the Notepad was not able to open it; after awhile of waiting came a message that says "Notepad (No Responding)". Clicking in properties, the Notepad indicates that there are 398 MB (417.888.279 bytes). Why Is not able to read it? I try to send it to you and the program crashed and all my complete message disappeared and the program close. So, what I did is compressed the file and I'm sending it to you with yesterday date (CBS_josephus_May15).

After all the corrections have been made, I went to c:\Windows\System32\Servicing\ (please look at your last message) and I could not find Servicing folder. So, looking at my notes and your previous instructions I realized that there was no such thing as "Servicing" that you most probably wanted to write Config; so I went to c:\Windows\System32\Config\Components\ and the file is 43.264 KB which means that either you were able Re-store the file dated January 22, 2015 (there was a picture that I did send you on one of my previous messages) or you created your own. Of course your components file now is a bit large than the one of January 2015. Whatever, you, Neimero and your team, were able to restore my system to be able to update Microsoft programs thru "Windows Update" (See attached pictures).

Windows Update find 89 files that need to be updated and after all were downloaded the instalation began and of all 89, 7 of them were not able to update. Instead it came a new code error with a different number (Code Error 8007371B) I found that this error in is not as problematic as i thouth it could be. One is related to internet Explorer and the other 6 are related to Windows Security system (See pictures Image_1599.JPG). Nevertheless if you by any chance have a good answer to resolve it, please let me know and I will work on it.

Anyways one more time I wish to thank you, Nemeiro and the team who have been working very hard in resolving that issue. Please do not exitate to contact me if any of you comes to Canada and makes an stop to my city Toronto, please send mer a message and gladly I will take you for a tour of the city and, for diner to the best restaurant in town. As note of my apreciation, a donation will be send to yourView attachment 12330IMG_1599.jpgIMG_1605.jpgIMG_1597.jpgIMG_1598.jpg organization.

Hello Josephus

Sorry about that, yes I did mean the Config folder. I must of had a mental blank! I am really happy to hear that Windows has been updating as it should. What I would like to do now is wait until the majority of Windows updates have been installed, once this done we will look at error 8007371B.

Thank you for the forum donation, every little bit helps keep this volunteer forum running :)

Once the majority of Windows update files have installed, let windows update run again, once it fails with error 8007371B please upload the following:

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  2. Press Enter
  3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"
  4. Please upload CBS_{Username}_{Date}.txt to this thread.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Windows Update Log

  1. Click on the Start button -> Inside the search box copy and paste the following command
    cmd /c copy %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.txt"
  2. Please go to your desktop and attach WindowsUpdate.txt to your next post

Good evening to you from Toronto,

Thank you so much for your help. We could consider, almost close, the issue of the Windows Update error of reference. I'm sending you the two files you requested: the CBS.txt file under the name of Sysnative, your name with today's date. and the Windows log file. I'm hoping that the first of those two files will, definitely, resolve once and for all, the issue of reference. Please let me know. (For whatever reason I was not able to send you the two files you want. Here in Toronto is 10 night of may 17). Sorry about my ignorance, but I have downloaded the program dropbox and I created a folder with the name od Sysnative but I don't know how to send that folder with the files on it to you. Could you let me know what to do for you to be able to receive those files?

Of the 89 files that Windows update downloaded, all of them were acceptable with the exception of 7 files that failed to update. The other 7 (se picture Img_01) are related to "Security Update for Windows 7 with the exception of the first one which is related to Internet Explorer as the picture indicated. For those errors, as I already mention, Windows are given a different code 8007371B which is a similar code than the previous one eliminating the last digit 2 by the letter B.

As far as my donation is concern, I have no problem in helping to help you out and your team in continuing helping people. I'm sure that other people will think the same way.

Josephus

Hi Alex,

I will send the same files that you have requested compressing, at least, one of them. I'm adding a file that it appeared from nowhere and I don't even have a clue of what it means. I open a new threat in reference to Code Error 8007371B. Thanks one more time and, please, keep in touch.

Thank you for providing that. Sorry my steps where not more clear, I have been meaning to write up a mini tutorial on how to use Dropbox and Onedrive but haven't had the time yet.

We have some reports of some missing manifest files, can you please run the following please.

Please follow the instructions Here to run the System Update Readiness Tool. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Hi and good evening Alex from Toronto,

I did my best and I follow your instructions as you requested and, after running the program, I'm sending you the following files: 1) the 'ChekSUR' file; 2) the CheckSUR.persist file; 3) A filterList file, and finally the compress CBS_Josephus_May23.txt file that all were generated after I run the program "System Update Rediness Tool" (SUR). When I wanted to read the CBS text file I got a message "Access denied" which usually it happens when you run a program without the Administration privileges.

I make note that after I run the program, I did reboot the system and I did try to installed the 7 programs that I was not able to install after the code error 80073712 was corrected. After that, I got same message that "Some updates were not installed. And at the near bottom Error(s) found CODE 8007371B. See enclosed picture.

BrianDrab a member of the team is taking care of the threat that I started few days ago which he also requested the same files. I already replied to his message and I also send the files that I'm sending to you too.

Thanks for your help

Josephus
