Windows update fails with error code 0x80070003

Hi,

Update 22H2 on Windows 10 has been failing for about two years now with error code 0x80070003.

Things I've tried:

1. I've tried running the Windows Update Assistant (Windows10Upgrade9252.exe), which gives error: 0xc1900107 with the error message "We couldn't start the installation program properly. Try rebooting then run the installation program again".
2. I've run DISM (which corrected some corrupted files) and SFC Scan.
3. The setupapi.dev.log contained errors about failing to remove 4 drivers so I've removed them manually (deleted oemxx.inf and oemxx.pnf files from C:\Windows\INF and run the command PNPUTIL /delete-driver oemxx.inf /uninstall /force) then rebooted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Found it !
Having upgraded from Windows 7 a long time ago, my system-reserved partition was 100 MB instead of 500 MB (as required by Windows 10). So I've resized this partition using Gparted from an Ubuntu live USB, which made my system unbootable (it would have been a better idea to do it with diskpart or some other Windows-specific tool). I fixed the boot issue by booting into repair mode from a Windows USB image (made with Media Creation Tool), running the following commands:

• bootrec /FixMbr
• bootrec /FixBoot (which failed)
• bcdboot f:\Windows /s c: /f ALL

My system is now up to date !
